this trail is the stop in Texas for 2005 NORBA race, instead of Waco. Trail starts with a short jeep road climb, then a little longer (for us Texans) jeep road climb, maybe a mike of sweet single track leading to a series of switchbacks, taking you along a rocky ledge, off camber, (we're bench cutting now), mile or so of small ledges, drops, babyheads, roots, there's probably 2 miles of tech. stuff, then more sweet single track, a little jeep road, downhill, still being worked on, then a CLIMB on pavement to finish 1st lap. course is only 7 miles now, but feels like 10.
Summary: I rode this trail today. and i found that the first part of the trail up to Marker #3 on the map is well defined, rocky but if youre determined youcan ride it, I lost part of my way but picked the trail back up to run the downhill part and if you are not even decent at decending walk down parts of this down hil or part of your face will be on a rock or tree. It was good workout about 7 miles or so or at least thats what my compuer told me.
Recommended Route: Follow what is discribed in the trail description thats what i rode.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Flat rock ( lower loop )

Summary: The Tapatio Springs trail system is a an unexpected treat in the Beautiful Texas Hill Country. The trails look like something you would expect to see in the east, like in North Carolina, Pisgah Natl Forest type. The trails are steep, twisty, and rooty. This trail system has recently received a lot of work, as it is being prepared for a race in March. This trail system winds around the Tapatio Springs golf course and residential area. It crosses the road in several places which makes it difficult to follow unless you know where to go. To get the most from this trail, go with someone that knows the trail. If you are visiting San Antonio and you have some time to ride and would like a tour, contact Sage Cycles at www.sagecycles.com
Recommended Route: From San Antonio, take IH 10 West towards Kerrville. Exit in Boerne at Highway 46. Take a left on Hwy 46 and head west for about 5 miles until you see a sign on the right for Deep Hollow. Turn right on Deep Hollow and follow the road through a residential area. Then you will drop down through a steep mountain cut, continue straight to the golf resort, after passing the condos, turn right down a steep paved road to the hotel lobby. Check in at the lobby. The trail map is not up to date. Take someone that knows the trails.

Summary: I first rode at Tap as a pre-ride for the race this year and had a blast! It has lots of climbs, one fairly long downhill section, and a fairly tough middle section. The trails are well marked, especially if you get the map at the inn (where you pay to ride).
Recommended Route: As mapped.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Flat Rock Ranch (Comfort)

Summary: if you decide to go to this trail, good luck. first of all its not easy to find tapatio springs. its a golf resort not a town. as youre driving down the highway at 70 mph just try to see the 3x4 foot sign saying tapatio springs. when your there, youre on your own. at the lobby of the hotel they give you a map ( i guess thats what it was). if youve never been there (like me) good luck finding the trails. sure you find the fire road but everything else good luck. looked around for bout an hour looking for the trails. never found em. i wasnt the only person who couldnt find them either. the entire hill is covered with ribons but in no way were they a trail. im not sure if something has changed but this was the worst trails ive ever tried to ride. on the sign in sheet, only 6 people had signed in for the entire month of april. again there were 4 other riders who also had no luck finding the trail. if you go, good luck. take someone who has been there before. in my opinion, you might as well drive to comfort and go to flat rock ranch. its just 20 minutes further down the road. from the map it looks like if its all climbs but if you cant find it you cant ride it. maybe im wrong but not good experience.
Other recommended trails in the same area: san antonio area: flat rock ranch(comfort), OP schnabel.

Summary: Tapatio is without a doubt the most challenging course in the San Antonio area. Lot's of major climbing with switchbacks tighter than 90 degrees. The 1st mile to mile & 1/2 is nothing but up! Once you get to the top you're technical skills will be challenged. When it's time to come down from the top you have a serious decent with switchbacks as tight as the intitial climb. The course is currently 7 miles long. Ride 1 lap and you will feel like you did 10 miles, not 7. Do 3 laps and you're body will feel like it did 30 miles. I did the 1st TMBRA race that was held at Tap and it was a killer. Watching the experts do 3-4 laps was something to behold. This is an extremely challenging trail system! Advanced rider recommended. Tons of fun! and worth the trip! Have any questions feel free to email me.
Recommended Route: When you enter the resort you will see the lobby on the right. They ask that you pay $5 to ride. It's based on the honor system so be cool. Once you've paid drive straightback. The road splits either right or left. Park in this area. The trail starts off to the left. Saddle up and ride to the left. There you will see a jeep trail that goes straight up. Ride almost halfway up and you'll see a jeep trail that goes right. Take it. Stay to you're left. You'll be doing a series of 3 hard climbs and it will flaten out. Just keep follow the trail from there as there is only one way to go.
CAUTION: REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE ON AND NEAR A GOLF COURSE! RESPECT THE GOLFERS AND BE QUIET WHEN NEAR THE GREEN. AND DO NOT RIDE ON THE GOLF COURSE OR ON THE SIDEWALK ON THE GOLF COURSE.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Comfort is just down IH10. Lot's of epic trails there too. After that is Kerrville. Another Kelly Creek is a nice trail as well.3 great trails within an hour of eachother!
