Cross Country Rider Summary: Update.
Rocky Hill is under new management and the Saloon and Cafe will be re-opening.
The above map is wrong. Recommended Route: Ride it ALL. You can ride up to a twenty mile loop if you take the four extra-credit loops along the way. More trails are in the planning stages. Other recommended trails in the same area: Bluff Creek Ranch - Warda; Barton Creek Greenbelt-Austin; Walnut Creek-Austin; Muleshoe Bend Park-Spicewood; Madrone Trail-Canyon Park, Canyon Lake.

Cross Country Rider Summary: Great trail! Loved the rolling, twisting singletrack through the trees. Probably crossed a creek 25 - 30 times. Much different than the Arizona riding I am used to. Although it is far from everywhere I can't wait to return even after my trip to the ER. I attempted "The Wall" (the wall won).

Weekend Warrior Summary: Great mix of smooth rolling singletrack through the woods, large gravel trails and roads, quiet pine needle paths in forest. Some fast and straight trails, some twisting and turning trails, some tough climbs and fast downhills. Great way to spend the day and ice cold beer and great burgers at the saloon after a quick outdoor shower - who could ask for more?

Cross Country Rider Summary: I am one of the new proprietors at Rocky Hill Ranch in Smithville, Texas. We have a new map availble at http://www.boomersrockyhill.com. The original 3 water stations are being restocked, and we have added a 4th at the 9 mile bail-out on Miracle Mile at the Power Line. We are open at 7am on Friday through Sunday, at noon on Thuresday, and we can open at other times if you call 512-633-8778. The Saloon is open for burgers and beer, and its new manager is bringing in acts like W. C. Clark and Billy Jo Shaver. Recommended Route: Take two laps from the shop down to front gate for a little warm up. Up Milk Jug Hill past Easy Up onto Drop Zone. Stay right in the Campground to Gray's Way and Ike's Peak. Up Fat Chuck's Demise to Water 1. Right at Fenceline, left on to Karaway. Easy Pickens to the road. Off The Lip (past 6 mile bail out to the road) and left at the road to Water 2. Left fork to Longhorn Loop. Right at the "T" to stay on the "Big Loop". Right at the 10 mile bailout to go on Tris Cross, then right again at the 12 mile bailout to go on Omar's Howl. Left at the Road and through the Hay Meadow to Tunnel o' Pines and Water 3. Left on Coyote Run, then Left onto Pine Pin to go back to Avenue of the Pines. Pat 12, 10 and 9 mile bailouts to Water 4, and then down Miracle Mile to the road and Water 1. Down Hard Boil to Mini-Me Option, and then take the right fork to The Wall. Down Gray's Highway to the Campground and out the road to the run behind Excalibur. Sprint into the field and avoid the mesquite thorns.

Cross Country Rider Summary: Actually this our second time in Rocky Hill, The first time we came here it rained a few times that week and turned Rocky Hill into Muddy Hill, we could not even get up Fat Chuck's first hill. The mud the accumulated in our bikes was unbelievably thick and heavy mixed with stones, rock & roots and God knows what else..
But the second time was a charm. Rocky hill in Texas is a mountain bikers playground. It starts off with a grueling climb called Fat Chucks demise, Believe me you will suffer. What it is is a series of four hills I think and littered with stone rock and roots. Traction is nearly impossible going up these hills but Ive heard folks that have conquered this ba#$tard. After that the trail winds around through a pine forest, meadows open pasture etc. It is long and the signs can be confusing. I recommend starting out in the morning but not very early because you will end up with a lot of spider webs in your face. Have somebody else clear it up for you first. After Fat Chucks, Karaway is a meadering single track through bush and pine trees, easy pickins lives up to its name then omars hollow. We got separated up to this point and I ended up doing only a nine mile loop. Blac trac and the Wall came near the end which was a bit technical but doable if you still have the strength from here you'll find your way back to the saloon.
Rocky Hill is pretty long but not as well maintained as Bluff Creek. I gave it a 4 in aerobic difficulty only because of its length and Fat Chucks. Lastly, bring at least 80 oz of water or Gatorade because you will need it. Recommended Route: Start out at Fat Chucks so you can get it done and over with. Then make a right on to Karaway and so on.. Other recommended trails in the same area: Bluff Creek Ranch
