This trail is a short loop of about 6 miles and varies from moderate to easy with some short steep climbs. The terrain consists of loose rock in the open areas and smooth packed dirt in the trees, before running along an open area along the golf course. The trail descends and climbs out of numerous loose and rocky arroyos. The trail then drops into a flat, wooded area where it winds around before climbing back up a jeep road and heading North. The single track picks up again on the right before returning back to jeep road and the start of the trail.
From I-27 North, exit Parkway Drive/4th street. Stay on the access road and continue North to Municipal Drive. Turn right on Municipal Drive and go about 1 mile. Turn right on Elm Street and park at the end of the street. The trailhead begins just beyond the end of the street.
Summary: As of 1.11.2009 this trail has been renovated and cleaned up. Work is still being done here and there but the trail is worthy and rideable. A few more trees need to be removed, but detours exist for now. Get out there and ride this trail.

Summary: There have been some pretty kind reviews of this place. It's in the rougher part of town (NE Lubbock's not too rough, kinda like the bad side of Mayberry) so park your car at Mackenzie park and ride to the trailhead. The front side runs by the muni golf course and it makes you wish you were on the cart path. Tennis ball-sized rocks make up the trailbed while softball-sized rocks choke the best lines. Local landowner lets his 100 lb. dog run loose.
Section down in the trees is nicer and there are some nicely engineered jumps, berms, and trail routing. But you lose all faith when you hit the jungle of weeds that nobody wants to cut. Head-tall and higher in spots. Ugly.
If you go, go early in the day, bring bug repellent, maybe a machete, tubes, pump, and rose-colored glasses.
Recommended Route: Back out of the parking spot and head to MLK trail.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Go anywhere else.

Summary: A nice break from the MLK trail. The beginning has a lot of gravel and can be unstable when dry (as it usually is in Lubbock) but it doesn't hamper the ride. Even the unstable climbs are doable if you pick a good line.
There are lots of nice climbs that will test your mettle, some of which wind and turn a bit. Since I'm a climber, I like these. The bottom section twists and turns through the trees, and the shade is nice when it's 100 degrees out. A few technical spots down in the bottom. It's a little overgrown in a couple of spots but this is limited.
Overall, I'd say it's more technical than the eastern half of MLK, and there are some places you can get hurt if you're not paying attention to business.
Recommended Route: It's a loop....

Summary: This is a great trail all around. It is a fun singletrack of about 6 miles that can challenge you everytime you ride. Has wooded areas that help with the heat in the summer, as well as some open areas running over the hills of the Yellowhouse Canyon. Great tight turns, fun downhills, and some great technical sections.
The course follows along a golf course with nice views of Mackenzie Park. When you ride in the trees, you really forget you are in West Texas as most of this area doesnt have trees like this!
Be forewarned about the loose rocks, tree branches, trash and the like. Make sure you keep your head up and looking forward!
Recommended Route: You can park at the end of Elm street that is a branch off of Municipal Drive. However, being the area that this trail is in, do not leave anything valuable in the car! It might be safer to park at the softball complex and ride about 1-1.5 miles to the trailhead so your car is in a heavier traffic area.

Summary: This is a great ride. Its fast and technical. Watch out for the industrial litter though. I have lost tires to buried sheet metal on the trail, derailluers to 1/4" wire getting wrapped in the cage, and suffered a broken nose being stupid. I used to ride it daily, but nothing good ever happened out there, so I ride MLK and Buffalo Springs mostly. Nonetheless, I highly recommend riding Purina, it took my skill to a new level.
