Believe it or not, mtb single track on the flat plains of Texas. There are almost 40 miles of trail in this area. Caliche washout to lowland root riddled mazes. The original track is a fast zig zag of about three miles if you head east at the trailhead. If you go west. There is a little nothing of a winding 1.8 miles that we ride for cardio training. It will pull your heart out if you run it start to finish all out. Trails are marked for difficulty and absolutely gorgeous right now due to five inches of rain.

Summary:
This is the trail you come to Lubbock to ride! From the parking lot head west for a killer cardio workout. Scenery on the west end stinks but you can't see straight after five minutes anyway. Carry a portable defibrillator to revive yourself for the east end.

You'll pop over a 10-foot nothing of a bridge then -> B L A S T <- over some fast, narrow, winding track laid by some dedicated and intelligent trail builders. Two new sections on the SE corner are fun and keep your attention. Cactus alley and the subsequent climb out are inspired.

Three difficulty levels keep you coming back for new combos. The price is right and the local riders are friendly and helpful. You're missing Texas riding if you miss this trail.

Recommended Route:
West end, then east, repeat as desired. After the west end you do get a little rest leading to, and just past, the little red bridge. You be sure to thank anyone you meet who did any work on this trail.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
MLK is tops within 100 miles. Palo Duro is obviously outside that radius and deserves a bike named after it. Try Mae Simmons -> while on the west side of MLK trail, cross MLK Blvd. Cross the footbridge you see to the south and head into those woods up ahead, crazy place, it's fun.

Summary:
Mae Simmons is a very good trail. Has a section for conditioning and a technicle section. Technicle section is filled with some good switchbacks, and some good decents that will get you going. There are some climbs also that will test you. Has three sections, and aerobic, technicle and cactus alley. catcus alley is called that for a reason. Just watch out, cause needles do hurt.

As of right now this is the only trail that i have ridden.

Recommended Route:
I usually ride the whole thing. But if im in a hurry than i'll ride the west side but if i do have the time i prefer to ride the technicle side along with catcus alley.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
i've heard that purina is a good place but i still have yet to find it.

Summary:
While there were 0 rocks on this trail, it was still a good time to be had.

Lots of left and right flips, good to learn how to flick your bike back and forth on.

Any rain does make this thing a muddy fuggle though. The night before we rode it rained like a son of a skank, but it made parts of the trail fast and other parts glue.

We rode out along the top of the property, came back down along the lower up and down trail by the lake. Good stuff.

Recommended Route:
High along the upper edge on the north side, came back low on the lake front up and down trails. Make sure you hit the hard core dh drop on the other side of the lake by the rock piles.

Summary:
Winner of Trail of The Year Award for the West Texas MTB Race Series for 2002. Just expanded from an eight mile loop to ten miles. Two new bridges one with a one foot drop off on to a narrow, partially buried wood and cable ladder that makes a steep descent into a fairly deep draw with a leg killer of a very technical climb out onto the old railbed. Another bridge over the creek into another rather fun,but technical area under big trees. Lots of fun areas and every type of riding from beginners to expert. Most think of Lubbock as flat as a pancake. We have a surprise for you at the mae simmons/mlk trails. More trail additions to come.

Recommended Route:
Counter clockwise and take a different route each lap. JUST GET TO THE BACKSIDE,

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Purina by the golf course with some new sections for the experts.

Summary:
This is the most ridden trail system in Lubbock, perhaps it's because nobody knows about the other great riding in Lubbock. I ride here quite a bit, but I like Purina trail system much better (less crowded) and more technical. With this in mind MLK is a good trail for people just starting and for that anyone. The west side of the trail has some great climbing and you mush get on the back side and ride cactus alley. This trail system is the site chosen for the West Texas Mountain Bike Series season closer this year so if that says anything it must be a great place to ride. I like to ride it backwards for a change of perspective, more hill climbs this way.

Recommended Route:
Backwards from the normal route

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Purina and Buffalo Springs Lake.
