Nice 'n easy trail for MTB ONLY. No pesky hikers and such to worry with. Meanders through beautiful East Tx pine country. A few creek crossings and at least one smooth downhill. Trail is very well maintained.
I45 to Willis, rt on Hwy1097, go 10 mi. Turn rt.(east) on Hwy 150 go 13 mi. to Hwy 2025 & turn rt.(south). Continue .5 mi. to the Double Lake entrance. From 59 at Cleveland, take HWY 2025 west, go 16 mi. to the entrance. Day use fee req'd. Last time I checked it was $5 per car. Camping, fishing, swimming also.
Summary: This is a fun, easy trail. However, this time of year (Spring) heed the park’s warning about snakes. I used to camp at Double Lake often as a Boy Scout. I don’t think I’ve seen this many snakes in one day, there, ever. (6 in all, including the Timber Rattler laying across the trail that I ran over).
Recommended Route: Just follow the signs. The trail is well kept, and well marked.

Summary: This is a great novice to intermediate level trail. Seven-plus miles of singletrack loop that incorporates lots of switchbacks, roots, and enough ups and down to keep it interesting. I rode this trail for the first time about 7-8 years ago on an old POS Huffy, and have ridden it twice in the past couple of months. It could be my updated ride, but the trail seems much easier now as a previous poster mentioned. The trail is very well maintained, wider and includes three bridge crossings that I don't remember being there before. One was over a pretty "deep" creek bottom that was at one time the most challenging part of the trail.
More recently, I rode the trail counter-clockwise from the trail head by the group camping areas. This way was more uphill earlier on, but made for some nice downhill runs about midway through the outer ring of the loop. The last time I rode clockwise following the offical course of GHORBA's Big Ring Race. This way seemed a little more challenging, lots of switchbacks through the creek bottom before crossing the road and starting some uphill, but gentle, runs. Remember hardcore bikers--this is southeast Texas--anything over 10-20 feet qualify as a significant climb.
Overall, this is a very nice ride for all levels. If you're more advanced add some speed and test your handling. The trail is designated as mountain bike only, but can be ridden any direction. Watch for a few other riders or go during the weekday to have the trail to yourself. I highly recommend this trail to anyone within a driving distance of an hour, which includes pretty much all of Houston.
Recommended Route: Start at the trailhead by the Parking and Group Camping areas on the North side of the lake and head out clockwise where trail crosses the road immediately north of the parking area.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Anthills, Lake Houston State Park

Summary: Nothing too killer, just a great ride through the piney woods of East Texas. My son (4 years old) rode most of the trails on the south side? on his single speed 40lb bike. Of course, he had to push it up the hills. The course was well maintained, and it was obvious that someone had put some hard work into the trails. Watch for the pink ribbons tied to trees on the trail ahead, to warn you of "areas of trail interest". I had a fun time riding the loop. I would say a moderate workout for a beginner, and just a joy-of-ride ride for a moderate / expert. We were just there over the Christmas holidays, and the place was EMPTY. The only people we saw were the park ranger, another biker, and one family that were camping! I imagine that it's crazy in the summer w/ lots of folks.
Recommended Route: When you're looking at the Park Entrance, head out to your left(North?).

Summary: I would recommend this trail for those who are just starting hardtrail biking. It is pretty easy the whole way, but enjoyable. I enjoy the last segment of the trail, there are some decent jumps, and it is very quick.

Summary: Great trail to show off your new spandex and hone your skills yelling "rider" so you can play with the big boys at MP. Actually a great trail, well maintained and lots of fun but please go there to have fun and not to take out your aggression or set a new "fast lap". Save that for MP.
Recommended Route: Only one way please, follow the red arrows.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Rocky Hill Ranch, Bluff Creek Ranch, Cypresswood, MP folks are getting annoying
