700 Acres San Antonio

Trail begins at Alsbrook street and is cut in half by Military Drive. There is passage under Military bridge to access southern trails. A great deal of variation; from smooth curvy creek- side single track, to a mix of rocky and hardpack arid areas with lots of desert type foliage. Everyone from beginners to advanced riders should be able to put together a ride of desired length and difficulty. DISCLAIMER: I'm not sure what an illegal trail is, but this is not a public park. I think that the private owners have simply always allowed people to use the land.

Trail Directions
From downtown, take I-37/281 south. Exit Military Drive North, this will take you eastward. Due to complaints from people in the neighborhoods in the surrounding area, the best place to park is at the abandoned convenience store parking lot (about 2 blocks once on Military) on Fairlawn off Military, then ride further eastward, down Military, to get on the trails.

Summary:
700 acres is no longer a real trail system. It was many years ago. It's more of a myth now. You're better off just going to OP Schnabel Park and riding there. If you're looking for some really great trails go to Tapatio Springs golf course. It's located outside 1604 about 15-20 minutes on IH10.

I'm writing this review for any out of towners that may travel to SA to ride. Don't want you to make the trip here to ride 700 acres and be dissapointed. If you live in SA and want to explore then go for it.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
MacAllister Park
Tapatio Springs
Comfort
OP Schnabel Park

Summary:
I couldn't find these trails as decribed in the review from Trax (from Elko, NV, USA) on Oct 12 2002 - maybe it was always like this, but there were a bunch of no trespassing signs right where the supposed trailheads were supposed to be - it looked like the area was all plowed and ready to be developed or something...

Summary:
Stellar trails. Lots of options for exploration. I went when it was a little bit muddy. The mud was sticky so it kept jamming between my forks and tire. So it was a little tough to get around at times. Even so, there was a lot of entertainement to be had just following trails around. I had a little problem with foliage getting in the way. But, that is to be expected in that kind of area. It's curable.

Recommended Route:
To suplement the directions in the earlier review: take a left on Alsbrook from Military Dr. On your right you'll see a trail head about 10 meters after the intersection. If you go down 100m further, you'll come to another trail head. And there's another one a ways further down the same road.
