Downhiller Summary: These trails are some of the most technical you'll find anywhere, let alone in Texas. 4 DH shuttle runs and a cross country trail(not to be confused with the XC trail which stands for extreme caution) Plus lots of great areas with jumps and drops to session over and over will send even seasoned pros home tired and smiling. Bring the biggest bike youve got and lots of armor and get in touch with the roughriders because this is not a place to ride alone. Check out www.roughriderracing.org for more info and pics. Recommended Route: they're all fun. the XC (extreme caution) is the absolute craziest trail I have ever ridden(And I've ridden all over the US.) STEEP and SWITCHBACKS and DROPS!! The sport course (El Bandito Borracho) is fun and probably one of the harder sport courses there is. The expert course (the Smoking Cactus) is STEEP and fun, and will make your arms pump for sure. there is also the Nada Line which I have yet to ride but is supposed to be very technical but with fewer consequences if you fall than the other trails.

Downhiller Summary: I've ridden alot of downhill trails in other areas, and these are easily the most intimidating trails I've encountered. The "sport" race course would be at least a black diamond at any ski resort. That is as easy as it gets out here. Plenty of drops, jumps, and man made stunts to satisfy any downhiller/freerider. If you are near El Paso, come and check it out. You won't be disappointed. Recommended Route: Check out www.roughriderracing.org for directions. Other recommended trails in the same area: A-trail (Alomogordo), Dona Ana, Angelfire, A-mountain (Las Cruces)

Weekend Warrior Summary: The Roughrider Canyon trails are very challenging. I had the opportunity to compete in an XC race there in '03 and it was a killer loop. At the time it was only 2 miles, but it included some technical sections that really pushed my personal limits. If you are into freeriding and DH, this is THE place to be. There are endless drops and great areas to pull some of your more difficult tricks to impress your friends and EMT techs. Aggressive tires are a plus because there are sections of sand, loose gravel, and large rocks. You can access the trail head with a normal vehicle but a 4X4 is handy in case you want to drive up to the top of the mountain. It is a desert environment so bring a full camel pack and extra jugs of water. You may want to bring extra tubes, etc along with a first aid kit. If you can, bring a cell phone because this place is pretty far out if you get into trouble. This trail is definitely fun and the Roughrider Racing team members are a really cool bunch of guys. If you are in the El Paso area, get in touch with them at Roughriderracing.org and check this place out, it is worth your time. Recommended Route: Take Horizon Exit, go north till the road ends, look on the mountain for two wind mills and go there. At the entrance to the park is a funny looking hill so you can't miss it. Other recommended trails in the same area: Franklin Mountain State Park, Arroyo Park, Monks, and "the playground".
