The Poway Shortcut

Average Rating:    (3.5 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 2

It is basically a fireroad and singletrack shortcut to Sycamore Canyon trails (Cardiac Loop). Start behind the Center and climb the hill going east and then down under the Community Rd tunnel. Climb again and you will come to a fireroad crest with the Poway business park on your right. Descend and climb again passing a water tower on your right. At the water tower make a left and go downhill until you reach dirt's end at High Pine rd. Ride High pine to left on Standish Rd. Make a right on Garden Rd. Make a left on Sycamore Canyon Rd. and follow until you reach the Sycamore Canyon Trailhead. Do a couple of 30 min. loops there and when you are done follow Sycamore Canyon Rd. to left on Garden Rd. to left on Poway Rd. to left on Community Rd. to right on Metate Rd and you are back at your car. This trail gives a better and longer alternative addition to the Sycamore Canyon loop.

I rode this path for the tour de poway event. If you add the climb from the service roads in the mix, you get a decent amount of climbing, and scenic XC. Total distance is 18.5 miles, with approx 2300' of gain (aggregate). I give this 3 stars since its mostly a conditioning ride, there aren't any meaningfull downhill's or technical challenge.

Recommended Route:
Start at Metcate (not sure of spelling) st.by the community park. Ride through the service roads until you get to Scripps parkway - then enter the park throug the service entrance.
