Mule Hill Trail

Average Rating:    (2.8 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 5

This is the newest section of the Coast to Crest trail. The first 4.5 miles is generally flat fire road. Great for family rides. The next two miles are hilly single track (up/down Raptor Ridge). The remaining section is flat, open trail along Bandy Canyon Road and along agricultural areas.

Summary:
DSDuke took me out on this ride and it was a lot of fun. The trip out is pretty slow but the climb is fun. The ride back was the most enjoy able. The climbs are a lot of fun and the trail is fun too.

Summary:
Yes, it's flat and boring in parts. The views from the hill are worth a look-see once, and it's a nice addition to Lake Hodges if you're looking for a long endurance ride. This would probably be a hellish ride in the summer, but in winter after a nice rain, the landscape is beautiful and the riding isn't too hot or sandy.
I recommend turning around at Ysabel Creek Rd after the descent - the rest of the trail is rutted and boring, and goes past a nauseatingly stinky dairy farm.

Recommended Route:
same as above.

Yes it is 20 miles out and back. This trail sucks! flat fire road, then hill, then flat fire road, then come back. Boring Boring Boring! Don't waste your time unless you want to take your family for an easy walk.

Recommended Route:
As above.

Summary:
The description above saids 10 miles long that's if you shuttle the ride, its actually a 20 mile out and back ride. Very flat ride and wide except for a hill in the middle, going east up the hill is a tough single track climb but the back side of the hill for the return trip is a much easier climb. The turn around is a parking lot at Highway 78, if you go west a 1/4 mile on the highway there is a small country store/gem shop where you can get snacks and a soda.

Recommended Route:
Sunset parking lot behind the gas stations

Other recommended trails in the same area:
go west toward the dam for what i live for, Single Track.

Summary:
The beginning is kinda boring, but hreat for a family. I thought it was well worth it though, once out of the flat farm rod it gets into a rougher road, and finally dumps you into a nice single track, but its starts by going up hill. About half way through the trail you can stop at a look out point, which is quite nice. You can eaither turn around there and head down for a nice fun ride, or continue on and take the trail down the other side to Bandy Canyon road, just remember you got to come back up it to get home. I really liked the ride, can get preety soft in some parts, but over all its a nice trail. When you come back out, where you cam in, you jump off the little rock ledge, adds a nice ending to your down hill ride, plus you wont have to slow down to get around the rocks in the beginning of the trail. I recommend this ride for the intermediat rider, but anyone can ride the dirt road that goes to the single track. Enjoy!!!

Recommended Route:
Juat like the directions say, i started out behind the two gas stations, next to the ranch.
