Lake Poway

Average Rating:    (3.8 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 10

Intermediate Doubletrack, fireroad and singletrack. Mt Woodson trail loop is advanced and pretty tough. Many nearly impassable switchbacks on the downhills and going up is brutal. Lake Poway route is a fun intermediate route, but pretty quick.

Summary:
Lake poway is not really super technical or super easy. It is a quick ride that leaves you wanting more. The trail has changed a lot in the past 6 months as they have done trail work. A lot of the rocks in the trail have been taken out and replaced with decomposed granite that improves drainage and decreases erosion. As a result, the trail is rather slippery. The trail is mostly single track but there are some fire roads and there is not a lot of shade on the trail. If you are wanting more you can hit up Mt. Woodson halfway around, or you could shuttle run woodson and do half of the lake.
Woodson is a different story. The top is technical with plenty of sharp corners, ledges, and surprises. As you work your way down it becomes super flowy and fast.

Recommended Route:
Normally I go around to the right on the fishing trail down by the lake thus avoiding the fire road and "hill". Halfway around the lake you hop on the fire road again until you get to the dam and get on the single track. First there is a descent with flowy switchbacks and then a climb back to the parking lot.

Ted willy if dh or dj is more your thing. Iron mtn for hike a bike dh. Poway has plenty of trails and a map somewhere online but these get old fast.

Summary:
i liked the trail a lot. it has a nice uphill at the start, and a good .5 mile (thats what ths sign says) dowhhill after that. great doubletrack, must ride after a rain, the ruts make it a ton of fun. the hill at the start is a great training ground to practice the downhills due to its ruts, logs, and granite.

Recommended Route:
Start at the left of the snack bar and go up the trail. there is a fork right away, go left. go up the uphill. go to the right down the switchbacks. it says no bikes in blue sky. so turn right and go around the rest of the lake.

Summary:
This trail is short and nothing but up and down for the first half of the ride. This was a challenging ride but spent the first half of the ride hiking up hill with my bike. Fun place to go for a change of pace but nothing special.

Summary:
This is a great lake to ride around. Nice hills with elevation gains and drops and turns. Leave your kids to fish, while you do a loop around the lake in 30 minutes. A very safe enviroment.
