Weekend Warrior Summary: A very sweet singletrack trail with a few technical spots. Recommended Route: I'm not sure about the folks who say this is a boring ride - this is far from the truth. Perhaps they didn't find the singletrack trail that skirts the west side of the lake. I usually start at the docks a mile of so west of the fishing area. It starts off a a sweet singletrack and gost for a while past some picnic tables and portapotty. After about a quarter mile of riding near some toolie reeds you come to the first technical spot - a wooden bridge. There are two ways over the bridge - both quite technical. Choose the right and you will need to navigate a tough mud hole. Choose the left and you will need to be able to navigate a very narrow section of bridge. Either way it is easy to fall off and eat mud. There are a couple of options - both basically take you in the same direction. The upper route is more hilly, the lower route keeps you closer to the lake (on you right). I usually take the lower route as there is better shade and better views of the lake. There are a couple more wooden bridges - both much easier than the first. When you get to graffiti bridge walk your bike up since there is no trail for a while. Other recommended trails in the same area: Go up the hill and ride over graffiti bridge. Ride on the road for a short while and you will soon see a trail on you right that continues around the lake. Stay on the trail near the lake and there is one technical area in which the trail slants at a good angle towards the lake. Lots of gravel makes it quite possible for you to skid right into the lake. After this it all easy singletrack with great lake views and it is quite easy to find a gear that allows you to keep up a nice pace. Several miles later you come to otay lakes road. Turn around and follow the same route back.

Weekend Warrior Summary: I rode this track yesterday for the first time, and it's now one of my favorites in San Diego.
The single track is rolling, with very few climbs...but you can really get some speed on some thin, marginally technical track. The north end of the lake gets particularly technical, with the east side of the lake being much "simpler."
I'd recommend this trail to anyone who's looking for a fast but attentive trail ride.
The trail was in great shape, and the vegetation has grown up well along the trail sides, making for some excellent blind turns. Recommended Route: Start at the boat docks off Wueste Rd., ride north to the fire road. There is a small stretch of single track that will dump you back onto the fire road a little ways down; take the fire road a little while further, then wave goodbye as you hit single track all the way to the dam.
Be careful, however. Rumor has it that you're not permitted to ride over the dam, so your riding in and out; no loops.
You'll have to walk your bike around the northwest corner of the lake (at least we did), but it's worth the hike (~200 yards). Other recommended trails in the same area: Sweetwater Reservoir

Cross Country Rider Summary: I believe Sponger has his trails mixed up , I think He's talking about sweetwater reservoir.
Sweetwater is also a good ride that you can make it a loop by going up and over by the swapmeet.
If your not by the olympic ctr then your on the wrong trail

Weekend Warrior Summary: Havn't done the lake trail but have headed up the road a ways to a trail head. There is a sign that says its a eco preserve and a couple of gates. There is a dirt road that branches off in a couple of directions. The first branch goes up and to the left. This one is a good long climb. Wasn't able to explore the road all the way to the end though. Coming down is rocky and sketchy. Bring a FS bike for the ride down. I rode it on a hard tail and it hurt. There is another branch that straight back from the trailhead. From this there are a couple of branches that head off to the right. We explored two of them. One dead ended. The other wasn't suitable for bikes. There was one more branch that we didn't do but looked like a good ride. We could see that it headed out along the lake for as far as we could see. Next time I am in SD I will be exploring this route. Recommended Route: Up and to the left. Let me know where this one ends if you get a chance to ride it.
