Cross Country Rider Summary: Black Mountain has a number of nice singletracks all over the mountain. I found a lot of them are rutted out or are very rocky, some sections are quite steep. Downhill the backside is a load of fun. There are some challanging sections especially when you get to the little parking lot take the singletrack that lead down the hill. Very rutted and challanging but loads of fun if you manage to handle the downhill turns. Recommended Route: I don't like hike a bike so I stick to the fire road to make it to the top. Park at the end of Maler Rd. and cross over to the dirt road. Uphill will take you about 20-25 minutes. On top enjoy the magnificant view. Down the hill take the singletrack and stay to the right. On the bottom bu the parking lot you can just ride down the road or get on the singletrack for some more fun. Other recommended trails in the same area: Del Mar Mesa, PQ Canyon, Elfin Forest.

Cross Country Rider Summary: Good conditioning ride up. The climb is not very challenging from a technical perspective but the short & intense DH is something you will not soon forget. The westside "trail" is a relatively long rockbed and it can be treacherous for newbies. Bring your "A" game for BM. Beginners should consider fine tuning their DH skills somewhere more forgiving. Intermediate to Advanced riders will appreciate the quick shot adrenaline on the short DH. Overall I found BM to be a very entertaining ride. Recommended Route: Take the Fire Lane up and take the Westside (facing the ocean) trail down. It looks Nasty at first... Because it is.. Other than the rock bed not much between you and a safe passage home. Other recommended trails in the same area: Carmel Mountain Ranch, Flightline and Lake Hodges...

, from Rancho Santa Fe, CA, US Summary: I Ride this trail about once a week as a training ride after school its a nice climb which is based on the speede you are going , so enjoy Black Mtn ! Recommended Route: A good trail to climb, dont bother going on the DH side for a climb .. it just does'nt work, unless you want to hike-a-bike alot.. soo take the Fire Road up all the way to the towers take a minute of breathing then head down ! The DH is not to technical only a little up top but you can get some massive speed, on the other side of the MTN its pretty steep and technical, short i like go down the way i came up.. Other recommended trails in the same area: Noble Canyon, Lake Morena, Anderson Truck Trail, Elfin Forest Sycamor Canyon..
