Go thru Whiting up to four corners go left down to santiago canyon road, go right to mojeska grade, go left over this paved hill and then down to the split, go right to tucker wildlife sanctuary and then up the fire road for a while(14-15 miles) past both the peaks way down past the clearing down down down and eventually you will come to Holy Jim trail, drop in to the right and all the way down to Trabuco Canyon(you'll know you are at the bottom. Go out of Trabuco Canyon to the paved road and go right, follow that for a few miles and at Santiago Cyn rd. go right to the horse stables and around the side back into Whiting Ranch and after some rolly singletrack/doubletrack you will eventually find Portola again, go right back to your car.

Whiting's a good warm up. The Harding portion is described several places in the SOCAL Trails, its all Fire road but I love climbing it. The crown jewel is decending Holy Jim, both the ride and the scenery. Then back through Whiting.

You need to be in shape, pretty agressive and well provisioned to punch this out. Its not for Novice riders. You will have done allot of work when you arrive at the most technical portion, Holy Jim. Be on your game because a bad move here, can leave you broken down or hurt and still a long way from the car.

Recommended Route:
The route is well defined in the original post. Its great ride after you have ridden each part individually, you should know your way around the area. Varied and allot of fun. It does have close to 8 mi. of road riding to connect the dots.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Try riding up Silverado motorway, R across Main Divide 3S04, R to crank down Maple Springs 5S04 back to your car.

Learn the Santa Ana's from Black Star to Trabuco and San Juan Trail, its paradise.
