Vasques Rocks County Park

Average Rating:    (3 of 5)

From the park entrance ride past the ranger residence to the first right that takes you to the camping area. Follow the History trail on the left to the farthest parking area. On the far side you will see a gate with a cable across it. Lift your bike over it and continue out the dirt road to the dirt road on the right. Ride down this road and up to a knoll. From here you will see a faint singletrack heading back down into the gully to the rocks. Follow the trail along the creek until you see the junction of a horse trail, PCT, and a dirt road that climbs to your right and towards the freeway. While climbing the dirt road to the top, you will pass two trails. The first is a horse trail and alittle further up is a foot trail. Both are rideable and end up at the same place. For this ride, I ride to the top and continue on the faint singletrack along the ridge that parallels the freeway. This track ends at the ridge above Agua Dulce Canyon Rd just above the freeway. From here, continue along the top of the mountain ridge until you see a steep singletrack down to the foot trail. This intersection takes you back into the rocks where you turn right to the "T" in the trail. Turn right here and follow it down to another downhill. Careful here, the last time I rode this there way softball size rocks that made it fun! At the bottom you cross the creek and head northeast (right) away from the closed area and climb back to the top of the ridge and rocks. You can turn left from here and ride back down to the last parking area and start another loop, or pick a trail and go exploring. Rock climbing is permitted here, even on a bike. Everything connects together and many trails are not on any maps, so the options are just about endless. One note: Please stay off the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) I know it's tempting, but we can lose these trails very easily. Watch for hikers and horses on weekends and bring plenty of water in the summer as temperatures are usually over 100 deg. 90+ singletrack

Summary:
This is where they film many Startreks and The Flintstones, it's like another planet, maybe Mars because the rocks have a red tint. Beautiful, scenic and exciting, mostly hard pack, andmy Bontrager Revolts really rock (pun intended) there.

Summary:
Took my daughter last week to ride here. We were informed that all the trails are now closed to mountainbiking. The only areas where you can ride are in the parking lot and the (very short) fire road. It seems there is a new sheriff (superintendant) for the area, and bikes are now off limits. On a good note, I finally had the reason to join IMBA.

Summary:
Park outside the park,Go west on Escondido, make a left into the bird area, Follow the road up past the old torn down ranch , about 150yds take the single track on the left follow up and over into the park, the climb here is steep and rocky,I usually wuss out and push. climb to the top.here is the fun part, the singletrack here is fun at speed's it's a little soft but still fun(its always better after a good rain...muddddd)follow it down into the park, here is where you have some choices, you can go left and go back up to the park or go right, and follow along the creek,I recommend taking the creek route, follow the trail(it's PCT by the way)along the creek and check out the indian caves, here you can keep going under the 14 freeway and to the other side to the remainder of PCT lots and lots of uphill, but coming back is all fun.......to get back just back trac to the turn off ,that lists "back to vaz q" take it up and out of the park..... to your vehicle.

Recommended Route:
I have a totally different route that is a little funner with more downhill.

OOOPS! I blew it. From the mountain ridge, you ride down the steep single track to the rocks and turn LEFT, not right. Sorry, I'm bass-ackwards sometimes.
