After parking at Encanto Park (about 620 ft.), head northeast (toward the mountains) on Encanto Pkwy .65 mile, going over a small rise, to a driveway on the left that heads to some horse stables. Go left along this road, and BE QUIET AND COURTEOUS as you head up past the horses, saying "Hi" to the people and their hound dogs. Stay left and follow the road as it drops a little to cross the stream bed at a left hand hairpin turn. The next 4 1/2 miles or so are the steepest fire road climbing you'll do on this side of the San Gabriel Mountains; steep, loose, and rutted. Clear days will show you ships on the ocean between the coast and Catalina Island. There's a gate about 2 1/2 miles up (you have to dismount to go around) and the high point (about 3660 ft.) comes at about 5 1/4 miles from the park, near Mt. Bliss. White Ssaddle is 1 1/4 miles further and 600 feet lower. The average grade from the stables to the high point is about 12.5 percent.
