Summary:
This is no ordinary fire road anymore... since the rains of Jan/Feb 2005, it is gnarly! What was once a smooth graded dirt road is now full of ruts, washouts, and landslides. Good luck trying to jump some of the holes created by major amounts of rainfall and mudflows. Where trees once clung to the edge of a cliff, now is a hole where the roots pulled out from under the road. Watch out for the natural oil spring near the beginning, if you get any on your tires, you might as well be riding in super lube mud!

Recommended Route:
The 9 mile (18 mile) out and back is still in the same place, but what used to take 1 to 2 hours now takes 2 to 3 hours. Go for it!

Summary:
Actually a total of 18.7 miles if you go up and down the road. Nice ride with a long uphill that flattens out. Boring ride if you live for singletrack and technical stuff but the views almost make up for it. Around miles 2-5 the ground is pretty rutted from cattle/horses making it a bumpy ride down. There are some extremely smooth sections as well. Overall this is a good ride, with stunning views- on a clear day you can see the channel islands- but it is HOT. Bring lots of water and ride early in summer. This gets 4 tires for the views and length, 3 for the ruts and fire road.

Recommended Route:
Same

Summary:
This is an easy to access long fireroad. As a fitness ride its great. The views are great on a clear day. Watch out for cows (seriously!) You can also shuttle this ride by getting dropped off at the top of Sulpher Mountain Road and riding down. A full on DH bike isn't needed, its a fireroad, with some hills.

Summary:
This is a great fitness trail, one you can ride after work or any time without a lot of fuss. Up and Back in less than an hour and a half. I usually ride to the cattle crossing just beyond the seven mile marker (mile markers are conveniently posted each mile). I gauge my fitness by time to reach cattle crossing at 2.8 miles and gate at 7.2 miles. Roughly 19 minutes and 47 minutes respectively. Steady elevation gain up with two brief downhill sections. Sketchy surface coming down (watch for hikers especially near bottom two miles). Boring trail but good veiws and easy access year-round. Beginners as well as advanced time trialists will enjoy this well-maintained resource.
