Cheeseboro Canyon

Average Rating:    (4.15 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 13

Starts fireroad and becomes a variety of different singletracks. There is a billboard at the parking lot that plots out all the trails so you can plan your ride prior. The climb through the canyon has a nice reward on the way home. Make a U turn when you get to the top to coast the roller coaster all the way home! Caution: Rattlesnakes and Horseback Riders.

Summary:
Great trail for all types of riders. So many options once you get out the main canyon that range from crazy fun single tracks to fire road. The Cheseburo Ridge is one of my favorites but if you're on a time crunch you can hit up the main canyon to Shepards Flats. I've been riding here my whole life and am never disappointed when i get back to my truck, except after the rain because the main canyon is mostly clay and it gets nasty

Recommended Route:
main canyon
shepards flats
the ridges
china flats
gas pipe

Other recommended trails in the same area:
not in this area but the Hub Junction and Backbone trail in the Topanga mountains

Summary:
This is pretty easy to find because it starts at a dirt parking lot. This was the first time I rode this Santa Monica area trail (last week). I always rode the Verdugo and Angelas mountain trails. This is a great trail for novice because it has good combinations of singletrack and fire roads. The singletrack are not very technical and they are pretty much flat so you can practice your bike handling skills. There are two rocky sections of the singletrack which are pretty technical steep decline/incline (depending on which way you ride).

There are several trails/connectors that you can ride so you should pick up a map at the beginning of the trail. Be careful of traffic because it gets crowded during the weekend.

Recommended Route:
Mt. Lowe, Inspiration point, Sam Merrill, El Prieto

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Backbone (Malibu)

Summary:
Ok let me keep this simple for other newbies to this trail...from a solid beginner's perspective...This trail is exhilarating. Will give you a thorough and gradual ascent, with a few drops here and there going up. Stamina is needed, bring the water, stretch the legs, tune the bike. Scenery is nice, especially once you get to the top. I had a small digital camera in my pack for my first time. I didn't see or hear any snakes, so don't go looking for them. But always beware. Now the going back, the downhill was like the best rollercoaster in the mountains. It rocks man! Gives a rush without spending a dime for the park use. It is however a bit rocky and sandy in places. I had to get off the bike a few times, but a lil' practive will solve that. There is a huge dip in the middle that I'd advise any green pees to take it slow, just short of halting at the edge and deciding how you're NOT going to hit the brakes in this jam. I didn't eat any rocks this day, and I was glad for it. I know, not so short of a review, but that's how exciting this trail is for anyone. And did I mention how nice the people are that ride this trail...have fun.

Recommended Route:
I just followed a buddy and other nice bikes with experienced riders

Other recommended trails in the same area:
I'm brand new!

Summary:
One of the best trails in SOCAL, it has everything to offer from fire roads to singletracks, technical singletracks, technical climbs, downhills, etc...

Recommended Route:
From the parking lot take the Cheseboro Canyon Trail (stay on your left, don't make any right turns) all the way to Sulphur Springs (small creek). Once you pass Sulphur Springs, that's where the fun begins!! Go straight until you get to a "T" & you are at Shepeherds Flat. If you make a left, this will take you to the "Lookout" (this route will have some technical climbs). From the "Lookout" you can go down to Palo Comado Trail or just go back where you came from. If you make a right from Shepherds Flat this will take you to another "T." If you make a right this will take you to the "Cheseboro Canyon View Trail" or the "Baleen Wall." Make a left & you have several options to take.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Malibu Creek, Los Robles Trail (off Moorpark Rd) and Sycamore Trail (off Wendy Drive)
