Summary:
Amazing that there aren't more reviews of this.

For whatever reason, Snow Summit has banned hardcore downhillers, but your XC bike will be fine. See their Web site for specifics. Still, there's plenty of super-technical single track for you to ride. We got there about 9:30 and managed four trips up the lift and down the mountain by the time the lift closed at 4pm.

There weren't many people when we went on a Sunday in early September. Maybe people have gotten confused by the downhill prohibitions. But there's great fire road and single track riding up there - everything from very easy winding fire roads to extremely steep, technical and rocky downhill. You can ride almost any trail on a hardtail, but you'll probably need to walk down some steep stuff unless you're insane like my girlfriend.

Warnings:

1) The tail map is horrible. It's so bad, it's laughable. SOUTH IS UP on their map, you'd think they'd print that someplace. Make a left at the top to go East.

2) Few of the trails have signs, and those that do don't use the same name as the map. It's very hard to find your way if you don't already know. Ask people, especially the lift staff, or other bikers or hikers if you see them. In general, just head downhill. You'll eventually hit either the resort base camp, or come out in the village.

3) If you come out in the village, it's about a 20 minute road ride back to the lifts. If you get lost, ask somebody. The road ride is not too fun. The end of it is uphill, too. However, there are some great rides down that end up out on that side, and it's worth it if you've got the time.

Recommended Route:
1E01 is some of the best single track ever, and compared favorably with some of our favorite trails at Mammoth.

Summary:
I rode Snow Valley's ski lift trails. The conditions are very loose up there with rocks and sand. So bring the fattest and knobbiest tire you have.

The Downhill trails are challenge, way beyond my level of XC riding. don't ride them unless you got the skills. Otherwise, if you ride it slowly you will get run over by one of the more sklllful riders barrelling down at lightning speed.

The XC trails are fun. Becareful of loose sections. Alot of the trails are rutted and loose since it's pretty much the end of the season now.

Bring knee and elbow pads. You'll thank me later.
