Good overall fide for training, fun, rehab. Not the most challenging, all the hils can be climed by me, at age 14. Some long up/down/up/down, on the back trails. but a fun ride with a little tech, mostly xc

Summary: Peters is a good trail for a moderate work out. There's no real single track but its fun fire roads. Nothing technical, great place to start someone out or if you want to build up. Be careful alot of hikers and a few horses. A few places are getting sandy towards the end of summer.
Recommended Route: I ride around the lake and then by the dam up the red hill along the roller coasters and into the eucalytus trees and back home. On average by myself a loop takes 40 mins, an hour with a group.

Summary: Peters Canyon is surrounded by homes which means that in the mornings you may see moderate pedestrian traffic and many many dogs. It is a short 6-7 miles loop around the whole park. From the parking lot area, the LEFT side of the park (closest to Jamboree) has steep uphills and steep downhills as well; it's a roller coaster. The cross between the "left" to the "right" side of the trail takes place at the end of the park OR you can cut it short by taking "Hill Scout trail" just before the end of the park. Either cross is a downhill singletrack around the hill and unto the base. Once you reach the bottom, you are now on the "right" side of the park and it's pretty much flat.
Follow the trail back and you are now back in the parking lot. You may choose from the parking lot to hop onto the lake loop which is approx a 2.5 mile loop. The first half of the loop goes thru some flowery single track and the other half is a fireroad with one uphill battle and then a moderately steep downhill. After that you are back on the trail you were before (that is the one of the "right" side of the park) and you simply follow it back to the parking lot.
I recommend this trail VERY early in the morning because it doesn't have much shade and you will TOAST. Plus around 9-10am a lot of foot traffic appears. ***I DO HAVE TO WARN YOU THAT THE UPHILLS TO THE LEFT OF THE PARK HAVE A GOOD AMOUNT OF GRAVEL WHICH FORCED MANY RIDERS TO DISMOUNT IN THE MIDDLE AND HIKE UP***
Another WARNING: The uphills and downhills also have quite a bit of erosion and "cracks" due to the rain and combined with all the small pebbles, it may be a formula for disaster if you are not a decent technical rider. The good news is that whoever maintains the park does once in a while fill those cracks with soil and installed wood sticks on the downhills to re-direct water from doing this again. Point is this is NOT the trail of choice if it has rained in the past 2-3 days.
Other than that, this is a short and good work out.
Recommended Route: There is a main trail that loops around the whole park. Find a map and follow it. The side trails closest to Jamboree are VERY steep uphill battles that take you to the TOP of East Ridge. The trails on the opposite side tend to be farily flat w/ foot traffic.

Summary: Good trail, like said above, i added this trail
Recommended Route: where ever, if you have a map or like me know it like the back of your hand you won't get lost
Other recommended trails in the same area: From the top of peters canyon, go across the street to irvine regional park, then to the top or ivrine reg. park to santiago oaks, round trip between 20 miles if you ride. but if you spend time in each park like i do it would be an all day 40 mile trip, so bring enouge water
