Downhiller Summary: This trail is has been newly brushed back for optimum ridability. The tope section is washy, heavily deep dust ball desending off camber corners. This trail is so fun I have a chubby just writing about it. This trail combines the type of 'Cold Spring' riding (top) and Tunnel riding (on the lower section.) There are a lot of great techy spots on the trail but my favorite section of the trail is where the stair section starts (you cant miss it) all the way to the bottom. We like rocks here in SB and cant get enough of them. There are three 1' foot steps that lead you to ROCKS all the way down.
It can be 'done' with a 6in or less bike, but what fun is that??? Go 7in or better and have the best time in your life. It is very fast and very dangerous. The are blind corners (3), that will lead you to 100ft. plus drops the will end you so be careful. People have been Heli-vacted off this trail because of the way it is set up. You can go to You-tube and check out some footage by dezul43 to get an idea of what I am talking about. All in all, the way the trail is groomed, i highy suggest ripping this one. Wear a bell and be courtious to the locals, its all we got and we dont want it ruined because people cant yield to hikers.
If your new to DH, go to Romero trail, you'll have more fun.

Cross Country Rider Summary: I've been riding up Romero Canyon Trail then across Gibralter Rd. then down San Ysidro. The climb is about 8 miles (1.5hrs) and the views are beautiful. The downhill is about 4 miles. The first half of the downhill is on loose terrain and the second half is thru intermittent rock gardens. Great ride...and better the second time knowing what to expect. Put your seat down before you descend. Go easy on skidding the rear wheel...its best to avoid it as much as you can. Some hikers and bikers have an adversarial relationship over this trail and many others on the front range. I've noticed on occassion a pissed off attitude from hikers when we cross paths even when I had pulled over completely and yielded right of way...and I did not fly up on them at a high rate of speed. The reality is that the trails are shared land. Bikers should be sensitive to hikers and horses and an alliance between all trail users should be formed.
Great trail! Recommended Route: Up Romero left on Gibralter left on San Ysidro Other recommended trails in the same area: Romero, Jesusita, Backbone, Sycamore Canyon...

Downhiller Summary: BEST TRAIL IN SANTA BARBARA. thats really all i need to write here. Goggles are a must on this trail. the top is extremely dusty, and very fast. If you dont have goggles make sure no one is riding in front of you, theres some pretty sketchy switchbacks through out the top half then towards the bottom it gets rocky, if you take the rockiest part of this trail thats what tunnel is like but the whole way. then theres some fireroad at the bottom, its a NIICEEE trail its average is like a half hour to get down.

, from SANTA BARBARA Summary: Guidelines to new mountain bikers in this area and visiting mountain bikers: 1. Learn proper trail etiquette this means yielding to any person coming up the trail(even other mountain bikers), yielding to hikers and equestrians by slowing down and allowing them to pass safely 2. Always keep yourself in control- dont be a kook 3. Do not skid around corners- you are not 7 years -old on your bmx anymore 4. Do not cut new trails- we work hard to maintain our forests 5. Do not ride directly after it rained this speeds erosion and kills your drivetrain anyway. 6. Do not cause a hostile environment on our trails local hikers and equestrians are typically the wealthy landowners that have a bigger political voices than we do If we piss them off, they have way more ability to take away our rights to ride local trails. 7. Do ride within your limits 8. Do be courteous to all trail users 9. Do enter and leave our trails in the exact way you want others to enjoy them 10. If you dont understand the point I am making, dont ride in this area you are not welcome. Recommended Route: Ride up Romero and over to San Ysidro - don't shuttle

, from berkeley Summary: Long, ugly 10 mile climb rewarded with about 3.5 feeble miles of singletrack, the last .5 of which is a boulder field. Then it's 7 miles back to where the car is parked on Gibralter. If you must ride in this area, bring a roadbike. Recommended Route: Leave your bike at home and go have coffee. Other recommended trails in the same area: none
