Palos Verdes

This is the perfect ride for all you people living in between LA and OC. It's also one of the most beautiful sceneries in Southern Cal. From the gate, either ride down the fast fireroad or ride down the technical singletrack to the right on the edge. You can follow the fireroad all the way down or try out the many fun singletracks off to the left side of the fireroad. You can also try the 2nd right opening which will lead you down to the bottom of the canyon. From the bottom, head out to the main highway (PV drive) and head north. You'll see Abalone Cove, Wayfarer's Chapel, and the old Marineland. Any of these places will give you a spectacular view of the Pacific ocean. To head back, simply return to the canyon and go up the first right climb. Follow it up, it may require you pushing at times because of the steepness. Go to the top of the climb and then follow a short singletrack and ride down the side of the hill. At the bottom make a right and follow it back to an opening, ride down a little drop and follow the main fireroad all the way up. This is a great ride but may be a little difficult for a beginner.

Summary:
RPV Bans Mountain Bikes From Many Trails

Nick Green DAILY BREEZE. Daily Breeze. Torrance, Calif.: Dec 5, 2004. pg. A.3

Mountain bikers who use the 160-acre former quarry known as the Forrestal property in Rancho Palos Verdes will soon find themselves banned from more than half the hilly trails there that they currently enjoy.

The Rancho Palos Verdes City Council made the surprise decision Saturday at the conclusion of an all-day workshop, attended at its peak by more than 100 people, that was held in part to determine trail usage on the tract.

The unanimous decision stunned local cyclists and staff of the nonprofit Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy, which is managing the land for the city. About 45 meetings over the past three years have been held to carefully craft a plan for trail usage that balanced the competing concerns of hikers, conservationists, cyclists and equestrians.

Such a drastic reduction in trails mountain bikers could use was not contemplated in the usage plan a steering committee had recommended.

Instead it was adopted from an alternate plan pushed by the local Sierra Club chapter.

Local members of the recently formed Palos Verdes chapter of the Concerned Off Road Bicyclists Association, quickly left the meeting before they could be asked for their reaction.

Summary:
This is a nice local spot to ride afterwork. It's a snaking fireroad trail mostly with singletrack that weave between the main fire road. This is my afterwork ride and it's very enjoyable easy ride with the ocean breeze and view. The ride is very easy and if you enter via Del Cerro Park, it's all downhill on the way in and up on the way out. If you want an ocean view ride and don't feel like driving up to the Malibu trails, this is really the only one alternative. There's nothing difficult about trail and it's a good place for beginners. I do see some DHers come in, but I never notice where they disappear to.

Summary:
The jump section that some people talk about are nothing worth driving your rig to ride. The jump section is to the right of the water tank and it's just two odd table top style jumps that are puny. Like the others say, go to Kenter or Thousand Oaks if you want to get in some air time and good sessions. This is just a XC trail. As a XC trail it's fun and easy. Nothing too technical. There are some sandy single track that gets tricky for beginners though. Great ocean breezes and views. It's all downward on the ride in, and climbing on the way out. So fun first and work later. Do treat this trail with respect because the locals are wanting to ban mtn bikers from this path.

Summary:
This tail is awsome!!!!
Its nothing HUGE, but its sher as hell fun! The single track is cool. The jumps, berms and bumps along the way are rad. The only thing bad about it, is the way back up to car. Its worth it if your doing the "ski jump". And there is a couple of drop-offs in the park.Good for freeriding/downhill... I guess?

Summary:
The jump section that people are talking about are nothing worth visiting. If you like jumps and happen to be in the area then it's ok, but definitely do not drive down to jump this. If you want jumps, go to Kenter or Thousand Oaks.

Personally, I don't know what all the hooplah is about by those who are complaining about these jumps, because they are so PUNY and small and most of the time I families with parents and children having fun just rolling over these jumps.

The fireroad ride is just like any other fireroad here in Socal. Nothing to write home about.

The single track that are in abundance are fun to ride. Be careful though, the surface of the single track is very loose and soft, so traction is almost nonexistent in many sections.

You can see the ocean from here and that's what makes this otherwise mundane place a nice a place to ride.

Lot's of hikers and doggie walkers, so be nice to them and give them the right of way.
