Cross Country Rider Summary: I rode the part from the bridge to Henninger flats yesterday (May 8, 2006). There is only one REALLY big land slide in the beginning of the trail. Although there is a narrow route which goes through it. Once you passed it, the road is totally rideable all the way to Henninger flats (there is another small land slide right before the flats, but if you make through the big one, it's not even worth mentioning.)
It looks like the road is being used by quite a few hikers. It's amazing to see how everything looks overgrown and abandoned, when it wasn't heavily used for around 2 years.
Recommended Route: Since the gate is still closed, you have to go through the Eaton canyon park, please try not to annoy a lot of hikers and dog walkers, since technically biking is not allowed there. You can also walk it all the way to the start if you'd like to be nice.

, from Altadena Summary: 06/29/03 - A tough fun climb. Leave early to beat the heat. After mile 4 it gets very rocky. At mile 5 there is a smooth leveled area that gives you a great view of the City and the Mt. Wilson antenas (nice place to stop and refuel). The antenas look close but dont fool yourself, you have a long way ahead of you. After this section it gets REALLY rocky and loose until you reach the paved road close to Wilson. There is a section at mile 8 that you'll need to walk your bike through due to a rock slide. Overall it was an enjoyable ride. I would recommend it to anyone that's looking for a good climb.

, from Glendale Summary: Whew! kind cold up there... not much activity on New Years Day. Once you reach the peak - if you decide to come down the the directon of Chantry flats; ie. Winter Creek trail. DONT go RIGHT when you come the 2 NPS sign posts. the one points for hikers to go left (no bikes and horses) and the other points right for bikes and horses. DANG! We ended up riding some ridge line where the trail fell apart and we were hiking our bikes to get up these really steep and loose hills - one after another. Oh well - maybe some joker screwed with signs. otherwise what a work out. Recommended Route: see other reviews Other recommended trails in the same area: Chantry is fun - when its open. seems to be closed in the winter.
