Summary:
Advanced my ass. Maybe if you are a heavy smoker. This is wide fireroad, you could zig-zag up the steepest if nescesary. Going down never take your hands off the brakes and a grandma would be fine. Though years ago have done 5.5mi down from Maple Springs to Bird Sanc. gate in 12 min pre any suspension. So it is some what steep.

Recommended Route:
Bird Sancuary to the top.

Summary:
This is a great ride to keep your base fitness level. It is in no way a technical ride. Not steep, but very steady uphill. It is much much more enjoyable to descend Joplin trail to Old Camp, and then down Santiago Truck Trail back to the car. Much more fun and technical that way.

Santiago Truck Trail, Holy Jim, Maple Springs, Blackstar, San Juan Trail.

Summary:
Well, if you like long uphill grinds, this is the trail for you. Fireroad all the way up (~9.5 miles) Went up this Saturday (10/21/00). Was pretty cool near the top (~43 degrees). Nice non technical trail, but gets you up to the main divide trail. Beware of all of the dirtbikers on the Main Divide trail. If you go down this way be careful, you can go pretty fast. Not many people on this trail past the 4 mile mark.

Recommended Route:
Same as above and below!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Santiago/Luge asdf!

Argh mate!! I bust me balls on this one. Tough uphills in the summer. Go early, take lots of water, and eat plenty of carbs the day before or you'll bonk like I did.
