Summary:
Lots of sand on the uphill climb, several sandy sections in the canyon, but downhill and easy; but if u don't like sand, then stay away. Great views from several places on the ridgeline. Downhill on the singletrack is very steep in sections. Next to an old watertank at the top of the canyon are a couple picnic benches that make a nice place to kick back. In the canyon, there are some singletrack trails branching off the fireroad. Some are deep sand so be cautious. I don't know if any of these singletrack diversions are real trails, but I have never seen any blocked off. One of these, which is to the right of the trail in a canyon meadow right after a long sandy section (it is unmarked) leads to the creek and has a few fun crossings. Creek normally runs year round, but during very dry years...
I would rate this trail 4 for the views, downhill track, and creek crossings; but only 2 for the sand. But it is right out my door, so I consider it my home trail. Watch for the occasional hiker and horseback rider. Be respectful. There are no trail restrictions for bikers, and keeping it that way would be delightful.

Recommended Route:
Go up the fireroad next to Rustic golf course. After park entrance gate stay to right to go up the hill. Follow fireroad along the ridge until you come to an obvious trail on the left. Down this fun bit of singletrack to the canyon fireroad and back to the park entrance. Just before the beginning of the golf course, take the fork to the right, follow the singletrack to a parking lot, take the fireroad that drops down and across the golf course back to the parking lot where you left your car.
