Summary:
The reasons I have ridden this area-
1. It's fairly close to where I live, pretty good for a quick ride after work.
2. There's not much traffic on these trails.
3. The number of small trails off to the side make exploring the area interesting. The reasons NOT to ride this area-
1. Transients live in the heavily wooded areas of the park. I actually did a night ride there once, I don't know what I was thinking.
2. Sand, sand, and more sand; very hard on the bike and the legs.
3. 95% of the riding isn't all that great, definitely not worth much travel.
4. There's better riding within a few miles. Up Little Tujunga paved and down the fire road into Kagel Canyon is pretty good. No singletrack but very secluded and pretty long if you're into distance. It's all in the Thomas Guide. La Tuna's not too far from Hansen, either. Also, Don't be tempted to ride the wash going towards Big Tujunga, it's all deep sand.
