Beaudry Fire Road
8 reviews
3.5 of 5
Climb the short steep pavement section and go around the gate. The fire road will quickly steepen. At .50 miles stay right and ahead. You quickly gain elevation and notice the nice views of million dollor homes down below. You'll soon pass the red and white radio towers on your left and at mile 2.5 the grade eases up tremendously. Around mile 3 you will see an old bus bench and a street sign! You can go ahead and take a break here. Views of Los Angeles, Burbank, Tujunga all around you. You can continue on the fire road, since you have only pedaled 3 miles to get here. The fire road is of a rolling nature until you reach mile 5-5.5. Climb the asphalt to the radio towers and have a break! Views of Burbank, San Fernando Valley, Hollywood Hills below you. To get back to your car, just turn around and have fun going downhill.
For a great loop, read the description to La Tuna loop. Consider adding the La Tuna Canyon trail to this loop. Mileage w/ La Tuna ride is 17-18 miles
Trail head is located at 1300 Beaudry Blvd just .25 miles away from where it intersects Country Club Drive where there is a beautiful golf course and Country Club.
Summary: I usually ride Beaudry down after going up Whiting woods, which is about 2 miles away from the entrance for Beaudry. WW is a very steep climb, considerably more so than Beaudry. But i like the exercise and this way i can go down Beaudry, which is a better downhill than WW, and make it a loop. Beaudry is fairly steep, but nothing like WW. You rarely see any other bikers on WW because of the steepness, but Beaudry is often crowded, so you have to be ready for bikers and hikers as you're decending around corners. This keep you from being able to go very fast, but it's a pretty fun down hill anyway. If you thrive on steep fast downhills, go up Beaudry to WW. Whiting woods is about a mile or 2 from the towers at the top of beaudry. If you do decend WW, be aware that there are a LOT of ruts and it's very steep for a fireroad, so be aware and keep an eyeball ahead so you'll be ready for any serious ruts and rocks ahead.....they come up on you quickly because you'll be moving quickly !! Theres also a single track about 100 yard east of the brand park benches which are matbe 1/2 way from the top of beaudry to WW. You have to go sloww and look carefully to find it because it's very overgrown. I never tried it, but i recently checked it out and it looks like it's only for the most experienced riders, or those who don't mind walking thier bike down most of the way ! I did try going up it once, but only got about 100 yards till i turned back. This stuff is way beyond my abilities ! By the way, you can also keep going west and you'll hit la tuna fireroad, and a little further to the la tuna single track, which is pretty fun and not to hard even for a beginner.
Recommended Route: Too many to list

Summary: If you are looking for more of a challenge, take the left fork to Beaudry south. It is very steep; some sections reach a 22 degree incline! Follow the trail past the red/white radio towers then down to the main trail which is Beaudry north. Continue past the bench to the Whiting Woods trail which is great downhill! This will eventually bring you to a gate in a residential area. Follow this road until you arive at a stop light. I believe the road is Honolulu ave; I'm drawing a blank right now...Anyway, turn right at the light and follow the road to La Crecenta.Turn right again and this will bring you back to the Country Club drive. Now if you want to put on the miles, continue past Whiting Woods until you arrive at a fork in the road. The main trail will take you to La Tuna canyon. The left fork will take you to Lanark trail. This will eventually drop you off at Lanark and Glenoaks bl. This will have around trip of 27 miles...Well worth it!!
Recommended Route: Follow the previous directions

Summary: Boring, often crowded, and not much afternoon sun. While there are some fun trails in the Verdugos, this one should be low on your "to do" list. If you want a "Santa Monica" (less than 1200 foot gain over 2 or so miles) short grade climb then this is for you. If not, then spend the extra 15 min and drive to the San Gabriels. Some of the new trails being cut by Glendale and Burbank on the south side have much better grades and are more challenging. The downside, more hikers.
Recommended Route: Same as above.
Other recommended trails in the same area: La Tuna Single-track

Summary: EVERYONE ON THIS REVIEW SAYS TO GO DOWN THE SAME WAY BUT THATS BORING, WHEN YOU GET TO THE WATER TOWER ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HILL YOU WILL SEE A TRIAL MARKED BY TWO POSTS. FOLLOW THEM DOWN THROUGH SCOTTS TRAIL (SINGLE TRACK ACTION) WHICH IS A LITTLE OVERGROWN BUT WAY MORE FUN. HANG A RIGHT ON BARNES ST AND DESCEND BACK TO THE BOTTOM.
Recommended Route: BE A MAN AND RIDE FROM WHERE EVER YOU LIVE AND GO UP THE NORTH PORTION.
Other recommended trails in the same area: VIPER TRAIL/ AT THE TOP OF OF BRAND PARK N/E OF THE BENCH
