The trail was newly rebuilt in August of 2004 Because of washouts, I have only ridden the new trail once or twice but it is really nice. The dirt is fairly soft so it slows you down a bit.

Summary:
This is a relatively mellow trail. I was on this trail when it was about 105 degrees and it wasn't too bad. Some steep ups and downs where you've got to get over some rubber water run offs. It can get a little confusing with some of the foot paths that go down to the lake. But really it's a quick 3 mile jaunt.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
If you're looking for something a little more challenging you may want to look on the other side of the dam. The trail isn't quite as well marked but there's some pretty gnarly climbs with a few quick downhill sections. You can go around the lake in about 3 hrs. You'll need to hook up with HW 20 to cross the Russian River but other than that if you're on fire road for more than 5 minutes you've missed the trail.

Summary:
I rode this trail last weekend and found it to be a real blast. It's mostly single track. Intermediate to expert. Not too many signs so watch out for the dead ends. Some super nice isolated beaches along the way. Much better than the trail on the other side of the lake.
