Funston Avenue

this is just a service road between two major streets in the city. if you want to try and ride every dirt path in or near golden gate park, this is a good out and back. it's also a good path to ride if you have business in the area and want to get away from the traffic for a moment.

Summary:
I rode this today to check out a new route to the Golden Gate Bridge. I'm sticking with Lincoln (Ave?), which I'd recommend to anyone that lives in the Avenues becase it's fast, a good warm up, and scenic. The Arguello gate is nice because it's fast with the least elevation gain. This route I found to be slow and meandered around through the golf course before getting anywhere. Riding this trail for itself, it's pretty short and pretty beginner. The main problem I had is that it was constantly broken up by cross streets (Cabrillo, Balboa, Anza, Geary...) every few seconds with busy traffic. Maybe I caught the lights wrong. If you want singletrack within San Francisco City limits, then there's no reason to leave Golden Gate Park for this. Mount Davidson or Lincoln Park (which is run by the same people the manage the Marin Headlands so I'm not sure how legal they are), are also better bets.

Recommended Route:
Fulton to the Presidio along Funston.

Summary:
This is the connector trail between the Presidio and Golden Gate Park. It is all dirt (except the intersections), doubletrack with a mild slope. You must be very careful negotiating the intersections because the trail crosses several city streets.

Recommended Route:
Trail Runs between Fulton/Park Presidio and Lake/Park Presidio.
