Summary:
Singletrack, fireroads, some steep climbs.
Ths area used to the location of the Rockhopper Race, a pre-season warm up race, right after Sea Otter. I raced it several times in the early nineties. A lot of pros would show up.
Good area for training and conditioning for locals. For out of towners, mix it in with some time at Rockville or Mix Canyon for a full day of fun.

Summary:
Any traveler along I-80 has passed by Lagoon Valley. The park is on the south side of the freeway between Vacaville and Fairfield. Riding is in the hills and on the ridges forming the eastern to southern ends of the Valley. A few minutes from either Vacaville or Fairfied. Take the Pena Adobe exit. Use fee is $3.00 per car per day. I parked in the first lot on the left. At the end of the lot a dirt trail leads up the first hill which is the eastern-most tower. There are three radar towers along the peaks of the east and south ridges of the park. Connecting trails along the ridgeline lead to each tower. All are within the Lagoon Valley Open Space. The trail to the first tower is a wide, but steep fire trail. Single track leads to a worn asphalt road leading up a steep, but rideable, trail to the second tower. The view is great from the second tower. East views across the central valley, south views to the Delta and western views to Fairfield. You can turn back from the second tower and complete a hour and twenty minute ride or continue to the third tower. Narrow, challenging single track leads to the third tower, which is on the southern ridge of the Lagoon Valley "bowl." From what I can tell, the ride is out and back. There are no other trails that I know of within the park, but this ride offers a fair amount of variety including challenging climbs, lots of narrow single-track and some downhill. There are no rock gardens so the trail is oriented more towards a cross-country work out.

One trail out and back.

Summary:
There are lots of good trails in the park, and quite a few miles of nice singletrack. Trails are virtually deserted on weekdays. The trails can be combined to make a long (10-mile roundtrip) tour, complete with awesome views of the surrounding area. Watch for star-thistle in some places. Allow trails to dry (5-days) after a rain.

Recommended Route:
Start at main parking lot, head north along the paved path to Jack Hume Grove, then head Northeast to the hills. Follow singltrack south along hillside (and up through 'forest'), then keep climbing. Continue S to service road, then jog W and continue S along main trail to top of hill.
