Ridden Trail: Once a week

Downhiller Summary: After the Rangers graded the fireroad into oblivian, ruining the 'slickrock' section and leaving 4 inches of dust powder, the rains came. Now the West Ridge fireroad is like cement, one could probably ride a skateboard down it. It has become so smooth, I could break 60 mph on a bmx. I guess the rangers forgot that the obstacles slowed bikes. If you like speed without any technical parts, go down West Ridge. Other recommended trails in the same area: All the good ones are a no-no....

, from Oakland, CA Summary: Disregard all reviews of West Ridge before May 2003. The park service recently graded and widened the best section (from the archery range to the bottom of the canyon). The dust, loose soil and rocks allow for little traction and make the trail more dangerous. Until after the next winter rains we'll have to wait to enjoy this trail as we once did. Be patient, and don't bother belly-aching about it, it is done. Recommended Route: West Ridge to East Ridge loop in that order is tough enough, but masochists may reverse the order. Other recommended trails in the same area: Monte Rio trail from Bacharas to Redwood Rd. was also graded, so that detour option is out as well.

, from oakland Summary: When going down west ridge you heart is pumping and your ass is jumpin. This has got to be one of the best down hills in the east bay. The down hill is technical at some part and then fast at others. ONce you get to the bottom of the 3 to 4 mile hill just take a rest at the medow than head up canyon. For some reason this hill is hard but you have fun going up. I highly recomend this trail for anybody who considers themselves to be a speed demon. Choose you lines well because I have seen people have some great falls. I recomend this trail for the intermediate rider who wants to get better. Begginers should definatly choose another route. Recommended Route: Down west ridge up canyon then east ridge Other recommended trails in the same area: Big trees, paso colo rados, (both are legal single track)

, from NYC Summary: I convinced a female friend of mine to try mountain biking with me. I wanted to find something fairly easy, seeing as this was her first time off road. I read the other reviews and these trails turned out to be perfect. Actually, even though it was all fireroads, there were a couple of steep and rutted downhill sections that I thought were going to give her problems. Fortunately, she was very athletic and in phenominal shape - she held it together and cleared everything. (I think I'm in love?) I'd have to say, overall, these trails are great for every level rider. Although it's technically easy, there is a good amount climbing and some long, sketchy downhills. No singletrack but bring a good attitude and you'll have fun. Recommended Route: I believe I followed the west ridge trail. There are markers throughout. Other recommended trails in the same area: ??
