Cross Country Rider Summary: Old Cabin is one of the great legal single tracks in Wilder Ranch. Similar to Eucalyptus Loop, it descends into a canyon, crosses a stream and climbs back out. Usually open year round, but the little wodden bridges may be moved or removed during the winter (these bridges can be slick when wet). Nice singletrack experience. Recommended Route: I prefer Old Cabin from the Eucaluptus Loop (west) side. It is a better (longer) downhill and the climb out is steep but relatively quick. However, if you want to connect three singletracks in a row, the best route is Old Cabin from the Engelsman/Wild Boar (east) side, then left on Eucalyptus Loop (becomes singletrack after a short full-width downhill section). There is a small technical section at the end of Eucalyptus Loop, then you turn left again onto Twin Oaks - another nice singletrack (3 in a row). Other recommended trails in the same area: The UCSC trails and other unmarked trails in the area are awesome.

, from Santa Cruz, Ca Summary: Old Cabin is basically a drop in and out of a ravine. The long meadow approach isn't nearly as fun as this one. The first half is some easy DH singletrack that you can go really fast on, but most of the time you'll stay planted to the ground. It ends in a little stream, then there's some uphill thats about as long as the downhill but shallower and smoother--that's why you should always approach from engelsman loop, for the other way is boring DH and the uphill is a beast. You soon come out of the trees into a big meadow. Recommended Route: The approach from Engelsman Loop is the best, taking the left turn at the beginning of the loop will take you up a few small hills, the last shallow and long, then there is some mellow downhill untill a 4-way intersection, go left, then follow the signs to Old Cabin. Other recommended trails in the same area: Enchanted Loop is crazy Dutch. Its like Old Cabin, but 3x as long,
