Fireroad, a connector trail from Rocksprings-Lagunitas to Willow Camp Fireroad on the other side of West Ridgecrest Blvd (going to Bolinas or Stinson Beach). This is a remote trail with few people on the weekday and usually on the weekend. Fun in all seasons.
Two ways: From East Marin, park at one of the Marin Municipal Water District entrances (like Natalie Greene park, Ross Commons, Sky Oaks ranger station. On a map find Rock Springs-Lagunitas fire road, ride uphill about 4 miles to Potrero Meadows and it is a "T" intersection with a huge oak next to it. OR at the parking lot along West Ridgecrest Blvd. About 2 miles north of Panoramic Hwy and Ridgecrest Blvd. intersection., Or 3 miles south of Fairfax-Bolinas Blvd.
Summary: Perfect trail after a long climb, not technical but fast. Always trying to find fun fireroads in an area where singletrack is illegal to us. The good things going for this trail are the remoteness and usual lack of people. There are a few parts with technical bits and you can usually open up the speed most of the time. At some of the fastest parts you can see hundreds of yards in front for Mr. Ranger. Have only seen him a few times, usually at Potrero Meadows. When starting from the "T" it starts with a fun downhill, small uphill and a load of fast, swoopy downhill to Cataract Creek which in the winter can be quite deep. Look for ice in the winter in shaded areas. Scenic.
Recommended Route: I start at Ross commons, ride other trails to get there (look on Olmstead Map or Joe Breeze's map in bike shop) and head on out to Rocksprings-Lagunitas "T" intersection.
Other recommended trails in the same area: You know the singletrack, but try these fireroads. Rocky Ridge, Willow Camp (downhill), Bald Hill (near Phoenix Lake-excellent for downhillers), Old Stagecoach (bring a camera)
