Cross Country Rider Summary: Hoo Koo E Koo is a fire road, there is a Hoo Koo E Koo trail that comes off the fire road, but is hiking only. The Hoo Koo E Koo fire road is one segment of a good ride that takes you up, around and back down Mt Tam. This is a must do ride for all mountain bikers. If doing the whole route, it is a great varied two to three (or more depending on route) hour ride. Good views, great workout. It has long climbs Fast downhills (careful, the Rangers have radar guns and limit speed to 15 MPH). Get a map and enjoy this mountain. Recommended Route: Many routs, I like to start at Ross Commons, go to Phoenix Lake, Eldridge Grade (or Shaver Grade to Lake Lagunitas to Eldridge), to the top, cross the road down RailRoad and Left on Hoo Koo e Koo, dropping down to the Kent Woodlands and back to Ross Commons. Other recommended trails in the same area: China Camp, Anadel and Tamarancho.

, from Sodom in the North Summary: yes, HHEK is kinda boring. tam in general is'nt the greatest, but one must appreciate the historical significance of this area and ride it from time to time to pay homage to the Mountain Biking Powers That Be. i don't remember HHEK as being all that fast. (why should it be with all of the HOHA's on tam?) i do recall it as being rolly in places and having goatfuXk climbs at the beginning and end. the climb at the railraod grade end is rocky, if i remember and the eldridge grade climb was smooth and steep. forgive me if i'm wrong, but i hav enot been on this fire road in a few years. there's not a whole lot more i can write about HHEK. i live in the city, so i'm not particularly enamoured of the locals either, but my personal policy is to simply ignore them. if somebody has a red hot stick jammed up his or her butt, it's not my problem. Recommended Route: up tenderfoot and via railroad grade. then ride up eldridge grade to the top of tam. then go back down the way you came up. Other recommended trails in the same area: just ride whereever you can when ever you can and be happy that you're healthy enough to ride.
