Ridden Trail: Every few months

Cross Country Rider Summary: Fremont Older is a good place to get in a quick ride when time is limited. It's easy to get to and not very demanding. I'll come here every few months for my after work ride when I want a break from Quicksliver and Santa Teresa.
Its a pretty mellow fire road up with some kinda-fun single track down. Nothing technical.
Always filled with Cupertino/Saratoga riders on $4K bikes, dressed in glaringly bright lycra, huffing and puffing up the hill in their granny gear. Good for a laugh. Recommended Route: Go up then down, not much too it. Other recommended trails in the same area: Quicksilver or Santa Teresa for early evening/after work rides. Grant Ranch for bigger stuff.

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Weekend Warrior Summary: Backside got killed by city of saratoga. Used to be an awesome trail. It was good because mostly only bikers would use the backside and it would separate the downhill bikers from the crowded trails of hikers and horses. Less accidents. They completely wrecked the trail, flattened all the jumps, took out all the obstacles, fenced the place to keep out bikers, put up video surveillance cameras (i think they are fake). They did all that to keep out bikers. Go figure. Biker discrimination. City of San Jose also flattened Rocky Ridge @ Santa Teresa Park. The only good trail over there. Weak. Recommended Route: Have to drive out of the area to find a good ride.

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Weekend Warrior Summary: Great for easy-medium rides 1-3 hrs. Many different routes allowing for variety. Rangers are rather mean however. As long as you avoid rangers and the many pedestrians and equestrians, you will do well. There are some single tracks, and many fire roads. DO NOT ride on trails that say not bikes. These, unlike similar marked off trails, are marked off for a good reason. Either it is merely not a trail and you will end up stuck at the bottom of a steep hill with no way out, or 5-6 drops, which you have to climb as well.
Recommended Route: Maise's peak is a great view of San Jose (including the smog) Other recommended trails in the same area: I love it because I can get there from my house, however, if you plan to drive farther, skyline boulevard (Highway 35), is much better.
