Summary:
Well my brother in law and myself rode this trail this past weekend. We both got to the end of the ride and said to each other "worst ride we have ever done" The downhill can be describe as flow killer and a sandy mess. Basically every corner you come to that a normal person would rail you have to come to a sluggish pace because every corner is sandy. The Climb up is a fire road and is long as all get out. Also I have never stayed on my saddle for downhill as much as I did here. Don't waste your time on this trail and just drive to hurkey creek and enjoy some fun mountain biking.

Recommended Route:
Not even worth giving you the route to take because I wouldn't want to put someone through the nonsense of that trail

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Hurkey Creek

Summary:
This ride is your reward for enduring up the tedious 8-mile (2.5hr) Thomas Mountain Fire Road climb. Total singletrack distance is about 6.4 miles.

From the top of Thomas Mountain and all the Pine trees - make the descent down swoopy and twisty singletrack which gracefully snakes down the mountain. The first third of the descent is mostly moist, loamy forest singletrack, the second third is tricky, tight and loose switchbacks with multiple boulder crossings and the final third is rock garden madness complete with rutted, off-camber sections....FAST AND FUN!!!!

The BEST part of this trail is that you just NEVER KNOW what lies around the next corner, due to tall, brushy overgrowth, tight, banked berms and occasional fallen trees. This ride will have all your senses and reflexes literally maxed on overload as you swiftly navigate all the various terrain. Just make sure you bring enough water and extra inner tubes...even if running tubeless onthis fast and buff singletrack.

Even though I made the Thomas Mountain climb without incident, my 46-year old body gets beat up on such slow ascents(and I climb like a goat!). Shuttle two vehicles and this ride makes everything WORTH IT from wherever you came from.

If you decide to ride the Thomas Mountain climb - all I can say is be prepared with plenty of water, inner tubes and energy bars. The climb and Ramona Trail singletrack combined makes this ride a mini-epic ride which can last up to five hours...depending on temperature.

Recommended Route:
Shuttle up Thomas Mountain Fire Service Road while another vehicle waits at the bottom of Ramona Trail=1.5 hours of 100% quality ride time!

Summary:
rode up to thomas on 3/26 kinda of windy. rode up so. fire road. very lonely place during week days for I did not see another human the whole time. saw 2 tire tracks from couple of days before. ride took 2hours and fifteen mins. have to admit this probably one of the slowest overall downhills that I ride.don't get me wrong top section is fast but once do the middle uphillish area. trail has rocks and tight switchbacks which means your always trying to shut it down for turns. 2 trees down brush wasn't too bad either, kind of sandy(but it is always like that). fun trail to check out if in the area for 24 race course is very close by.

Recommended Route:
up so. fire road seems easier to me. down ramona trail.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
24 course and spring challenge trails(thanks marlin). anything in the trees.
