Once a month

Summary:
This is essentially an afterwork weekday ride. I would avoid it on weekends due to the many hikers, but mainly because it is unworthy of your precious weekend time. Ride Santiago Oaks on the weekend. Having said that, this trail does not get the respect it deserves. Yes, it is short, and non-technical, but it is fun. While this is considered a beginner to intermediate area it still has a little something for the advanced rider. The hill in the route description for one. Do not take your beginner friends on this hill or they may never ride with you again. Although relatively short it is one of the steepest climbs in OC. Similar to the bottom part of Matthis at Aliso-Wood. There is also a hill coming from the direction of the main parking area which requires power and finesse to clean. An excellent challenge for an intermideate rider. Fun easy sigletrack, tough climbs, and rolling ridges makes this a great beginner/intermediate weekday ride. If Peters is close to where you live give this trail a spin. It can be done in less than an hour thus making it easy to satisfy your ride fix in a relatively short amount of time. I was tempted to give this a 3 tire rating, but it really only deserves a 2. But it's a really great 2.

Recommended Route:
Start from the south end of the park and head up the canyon for a good warm-up. At the dam go either left or right which will take you to the main parking area. From there either loop around the lake, or back track the way you came. Once back at the canyon road veer left towards the east ridge. Yes, the very steep looking hill. At the top of the hill take the single track to the left, and this will put you on the east ridge. Continue along the ridge until you are back at the south trailhead. This completes a 6 mile loop. Do it again, and take the opposite direction at the dam. You can skip the big hill this time, and simply head back out down the canyon.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Santiago Oaks. If you are feeling ambitious you can connect the two loops since they are only a mile or two apart.

Summary:
Watch out for horses and their calling cards. This park is very crowded on weekends. Speed limit 10mph is enforced.

Recommended Route:
Take the east ridge route, from north to south, then the main Peters Canyon trail back to the parking lot.
Go around the lake any direction total ride about 5 miles.
