Kern Canyon Trail

Average Rating:    (5 of 5)

100% single track in the sierra foothills. Best to go in spring when the hills are green. The trail is 11.3 miles one way. Overall the trail is well maintained and all rideable. There are some fun rocks but the trail really isnt technical. This is probably the best cross county trail in southern sierras. The trail starts with a lot of climbing. The second half has more down hill.

Trail Directions
The ride starts at "freeway ridge" 4x4 trail about a few miles west of Borel rd on 178. If you are coming up from Bakersfield this is after it turns into a full on freeway so you need to go past the trail head and turn around a Borel rd. Doing a U-turn is not leagal. From the parking area head up the 4x4 trail for a couple hundred feet and turn left on the Kern Canyon Trail. The easiest way is to shuttle. The finish is at Delonaga Bridge. This is where hwy 178 crosses the kern and the Freeway starts. Park at the large parking area by the river. When you finish the ride you cross the bridge to get to your car.
