Summary:
Rocky Canyon is actually 9/10ths of a mile single track from the top of the quarry at the first stream crossing to summit. But it is one of the most challenging single tracks with its rocks and ruts!! It's for more experienced mtbikers, or if you want to learn the technicalities of mountain biking from scratch - try it!

Recommended Route:
as previous...

Other recommended trails in the same area:
In Atascadero city limits there are the Jim Green and Blue Oak trails that are great for some quick biking exercise not far from home.

Summary:
Rocky Canyon Trail has gotten very rocky and gullied since the heavy rainstorm in March 2001. It gets technical. Do a bit of fill ins here & there, and please bring plastic grocery bags for trash pick up.

Recommended Route:
As previous. You can also ride from El Camino Real at Hwy 41 East across the Salinas River to turn at Templeton Road going south to Rocky Canyon and Halcon Rds intersect. Then turn left to go thru quarry gate and one mile to quarry. Follow green and white signs to trail above the quarry.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Jim Green Trail off east Curbaril Avenue to right turn at Cortez Avenue with parking close to the RR tracks, going up and around two hills overlooking the Salinas River and Chalk Mtn. Golf course.
