, from Santa Cruz, CA Summary: I really enjoyed this ride. The views are great. It was kind of hazy on the day I rode. The shuttle cost $15 and takes you from Spooner lake up to Mt. Rose. It is about a half hour ride, which gives you time to mingle with others. I was sleepy and grumpy, so I pretty much kept to myself in the shuttle. Once dropped off the driver points at the trail and tells you to follow the signs. There is a fun section to get you fired up as you pass through the meadow and hop over creeks. From there you will climb up a few hundred feet before starting to descend again. Be watchfull of your speed. Lots of blind corners, sandpits, and boulders. If you want to smoke this trail be prepared to crash. I ended up taking a bad bounce right into a 1000lb boulder. Fortunately I cleared the boulder in form that would make the man of steal himself proud. The trail drops and winds as a singletrack around the side of the mountain. After about another mile or so it does a bit of climbing, but nothing too major. After 9 miles you come to the intersection where you can drop down the Flume trail and catch the shuttle back to Spooner lake or you can keep going on the rim to Marlet peak. The climb from this intersection gets pretty intense. Map said only 400ft, but by the time you get to Marlet peak it feels more like 1000 ft worth of climb. I had heard this climb was pretty big, so if you are tired at the intersection to take the flume. Any rate, climb is beautiful. Lots of rocks to weave through and some stairs along the way, but all doable if your legs are with you. At the top You get a great view of Marlet lake and Lake Tahoe behind that. Winds up top were gusting at 50-70mph, so we didn't hang here for long. Once turned around and headed back to the trail it began to drop pretty fast. Not real steep, just a fun rolling and switchback section of singletrack. Downhill for miles. Then comes another intersection and the trail turns into fire road. You climb a short distance before the fire road drops. This section is great, good downhill, waterbars to launch, and some dust to pad you if you crash. At the bottom it flattens out and rolls for a while before you reach the intersection with the flume again. Or atleast a trail that leads to the flume. I went towards Spooner lake. This is about a 3/4-1mile fire road climb, but by this time I was getting pretty tired. kicked it to the granny gear and putted up it. This peaks and then drops into onother long section of fireroad with some larger water bars. I really enjoyed this section as well. Not usually much for fire roads, but the water bars were good to loft off of and do x-ups. Be aware that there is a posted speed limit, so don't get too carried away. Trial levels out and then you climb maybe 1/4mi back up to the Spooner parking lot. Fun ride. Definitely recommend it. Recommended Route: I rode the shuttle up to Mt. Rose. We rode the rim all the way back to Spooner Lake. A 20+mi ride with plenty of billy goat climbs and good dh fun. Other recommended trails in the same area: Kingsbury Grade

, from Lake Tahoe Summary: For a bonus climb take the side trail to Picnic Rocks with a 360 veiw of the surroundings. Recommended Route: From Brockway Summit Trailhead ride past the trailhead and go east on the dirt road. The road is almost flat for about two miles and then it climbs steep. Make the first left on Forest service Road 16N33 for a mile to intersect the rim trail. Turn left to make a 8 mile loop with mostly downhill singletrack on the TRT. Other recommended trails in the same area: Roads and trails above Kings Beach. Crystal Bay Lookout. Martis Peak Lookout.

, from CycleTek, Loma Linda, SoCal Summary: This ride is killer. It is a nice somewhat tech climb up to the log bench, or father to the rock crags, with a spectacular 180' view of Lake Tahoe. You can go down to Spooner Lake and back or turn around and descend back to the trailhead, dropping the the rock steps you may have had to hike-a-bike up. Be cool to the hikers, slow down and take time to say hello. I met a totaly cool dude smoking out at the rock crags on top who hooked me up on other killer rides in the area and took some photos of me. Bob Marley Rules! Recommended Route: Ride from trailhead above Brodovitch park on Kingsbury Grade. Not sure of access questions since I havent ridden it in a couple of years. I would apreciate any info or riding partners since I will be up in the Tahoe/Downieville area in July. Other recommended trails in the same area: Mr. Toads Wild Ride, Other east side Rim trail sections. But not giving up the secret ones!

, from Fruita Summary: I noticed that other reviewers commented on riding _down_ the section that runs into Tahoe City. This is a major mistake, as _climbing_ this particular section is what we found to most fun. We did happen to garner looks of disbelief from those who chose to access the rim from the many fire roads to choose from. Their loss. We felt it was one of the very best climbs we have ever done, anywhere. Recommended Route: Climb up from Tahoe City. Other recommended trails in the same area: Don't skid and stay the hell on the trail.
