Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Cross Country Rider Summary: Best trail within 1 hour drive of Modesto/Turlock. I rode the day after a heavy rain and it seemed to be in really good condition at the time of my ride (because of a great prevalence of rocks). The trail is steep in parts and requires quick bursts of energy to successfully negotiate. Definitely on the more technical side, this place had me pulling out my balance skills when I didn't have enough momentum to climb certain places in the trail. I would agree that this is a fun place to ride with challenging segments testing your anaerobic capacity. However, this trail is not continuously smooth, and you don't develop any real "flow" during your ride. It more or less just kicks your butt. Recommended Route: Ride both sides of the park (on north and south sides of Red Hills Road). North side: start at the trail that is alongside of the road and ride toward serpentine road. climb up serpentine road until you reach the end and look for the singletrack along the fence heading west. Follow that all the way back down to the parking lot. BTW, you can take a few descents to the left before you get to the parking lot that are pretty fun. South side: Old stage trail/Soaproot ridge loop Other recommended trails in the same area: 007 at Bass Lake, Dry Creek in Modesto, Highway 59 on your Harley.

Weekend Warrior Summary: This is my first time riding this trail and man it will kick your butt. It is used frequently by horses also and has some steep terrain. This trail provides you with a great cardio workout but rewards you with some fun downhill. I am definately going back really soon. Recommended Route: Check out http://www.trogspace.com for trail info....those guys ride there a lot

Cross Country Rider Summary: Wow, no one has reviewed this lately. The place still has rocky 'thank sir, may I have another' singletrack. If you learn ride here and like it...you can handle just about anywhere, up or down. A warmup loop across the street from the parking lot is a good idea. Most the trails on that side are intermediate rated with a few short hike-a-bike sections.
Be nice to the horse people. They 'maintain' the area.

, from Patterson Summary: I just don't ride here in the summer. Even on days under 100 degrees the air itself seems to suck all water out of you. But when it's cool, it's great. Lot's of singeltrack, rocky singletrack, beat you up and spit you out singletrack, but it's all ridable. Did I mention rocks? Recommended Route: From the main parking lot, do the trails on the other side of the road first, then loop back to the main parking lot. At the start of the trail take a right and head up. Wander. Other recommended trails in the same area: Glory Hole, Pinball, Pinecrest Peak Downhill
