Several miles of narrow jeep trail and primo singletrack; some trails on map, some aren't. Reasonable climbs (1000 feet or so). Lots to choose from, and hardly any people during the week (went on a Friday and saw one other person). Doable by beginners, but more advanced stuff probably available (didn't ride all of it). Can also go via streets at Alpine Meadows Road (one end of trail here) to jeep trail that goes up to Scott Peak (1200 foot climb or so).
South on West Lake Blvd out of Tahoe City. Can be accessed from various locations. Go West on Pineland to Ward Canyon Road (Courchevel). Go right at Chamonix. Trailhead at end of street (can park there). Or, just south of US 89 "Y" in Tahoe City, go west on Granlibakken, then south on Rawhide to end of street. Map available at "Cyclepaths" on West Lake Blvd. in Tahoe City near Pineland.
Summary: This trail is certainly worth riding if you are in the area for a while but its not on the tops of my list mainly for lack of views/vistas, but the ride back down the balloon string is a blast
Recommended Route: start around the meadow to the left, counter clockwise. we then kept following the TRT down to the gravel road then took the road down and did the Standford Rocks loop. pretty well graded climb up an old road grade then a wild ride down rock "steps" and bench cut on the other side then finishing up on a couple mile jeep trail that puts you back where the TRT hit the gravel road. head back up the gravel road and look for the single track to the left not far after the TRT turns to single track again. We missed the first single track to the right after that and went down a dirt road and caught the next one. It makes for a long day with lots of climbing but a really nice long ride, I think it was 25 miles with about 5000 ft of climbing. We were able to navagate it all using the Adventure Map - highly recommended
Other recommended trails in the same area: just about all the Tahoe rim trail you are allowed to ride. dont miss the stuff on the south side of 89 at the Big Meadows trail head, really great alpine meadow stuff and take Christmas Valley back down. The paved road outta there is kinda a bummer but well worth it if you dont have a shuttle

Summary: If you are looking for fast, fun trail in a scenic area, look no further. The 13 mile Paige Meadows Loop has some awesome trail, but there are options to add more trail that is in the same general area.
I rated the aerobic difficulty a 4 as if you are not acclimated to riding at elevation, you'll feel it... I rode the trail on a 32/16 singlespeed. Either run 32/18 or bring your geared bike.
Recommended Route: Get the map at CyclePaths and follow instructions for the 13 mile Paige Meadows Loop. Park at the CyclePaths bike shop and start from there. Note - the 3 miles up the road to Chamonix Road seems like it takes forever, but just keep going. I missed it and hit the dirt too soon... To make for a longer ride, ride the road ALL the way out to the end of the canyon and turn right under the Sherwood chairlift (Alpine Meadows). This will allow you to head East via the Lakeview Trail, which then links up with the Ward Jeep Trail. Then, follow the remaining route for the Paige Meadows Loop.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Sawtooth Ridge Trail (Truckee)

Ridden Trail: Once a year

Summary: Very nice ride. The loop we did is about 15 miles with about 1,400 feet of climbing. A lot of the trails are not on the maps, so it's easy to get turned around in the meadows area. There were lots of wildflowers in the meadows. The trails are a combination of single track and fire roads.
Recommended Route: I like to start at the Tahoe City Rawhide Street Trailhead, and do a loop ride up to the meadows, then to Alpine and back to Tahoe City along the Truckee R. Trail

Summary: A great trail to learn to ride on. Lots of tight corners though, its mostly straight. LOOK OUT FOR BEARS NEAR TRAIL, IVE SEEN THEM A LOT. Just ride past them or if you see them ahead of time, you can turn around.
Recommended Route: Start at alpine and climb from there. The climb is a beautiful climb overlooking Alpine. After the climb, there is a nice decent to the meadow.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Squawyville, Northstar

Summary: This trail is cool. Lots of fast singletrack. I went on a sunday and saw 2 other bikers. Best ride I have done in a while. I kept climbing up until I thought I reached the top; found amny singletracks down.
Recommended Route: Started at Rawhide and kept going up as much as possible. It's hard to get lost, so just keep riding.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Don't know of many others this good.
