This trail is Downhill heaven over 3000' vertical feet that can be shuttled by truck. Fast, flowy, lots of jumps, more for downhillers than Downieville.
In the town of Quincy stay on 89/70 (which is also called E Main St.) head East through town. Near the fairgrounds turn right on Peppard Flat rd. Drive up the mountain, up, up, up stay right at the fork in the road a couple miles in. Just keep driving up trust me. After about 20 minutes of climbing you should see trails that bisect the road. The best part is near the top of the mountain, which is farther then you think and the trail is easy to find up there. Get out and ride it wherever looks good, no need to go to the very top.
As for the trail it is amazing yet there is no way to give good directions for orienteering on it. This trail is flowy and fast but not incredibly steep. If you find a trailhead that is really steep, don't ride it. That is Devil's finger and is only fun if your bike is bombproof and you like skidding out of control down rutted shale.
Back to the trail. The top section bisects the road and is really easy to follow at the top. It is fairly straight with lots of rollers and is sooooooooo fun. When you get to the road and there is no trail on the other side. Ride down the road about 500 yards and look on the left. This section is really dusty with lots of jumps, but the dirt is like sand. After this section ride the road for about a mile down. The road will level off after awhile, started heading up and then start going downhill. when you are heading downhill with the mountain on your left keep looking to your right for a trail that heads between two bushs. Take this short trail, the last downhill to the road is steep and loose. Cross the road here and the trail is on your left right away. This is a super fun rock garden. Blast down this section and at the cross road of three firetrails. Head far left, it is almost a u-turn. From here just keep heading down. When you hit the road, go straight and turn right on E. Main ride to the safeway Parking Lot or the bottom of Peppard Flat where your bro is waiting in the truck ready to load up and drive up again.
I know these direction are sketch, but I found this trail and am not a local. Go to 107 Leonard ave. to the Bike Shop in town and talk to the owner or the kids working there, they will set you straight and maybe even shuttle you.
Trust me this is as much downhill as Downieville with NO uphill to speak of. You can easily click off over 30 miles of pure downhill here. Check it out, you will be glad you did
Summary: This town is an hour from Downieville. I stayed there this year and as I stared up at the huge mountain behind town, I thought there must be epic trails up there. I asked the guys at the shop for advice, and what I found was an epic day of downhilling. This is not for the weak of heart though. This trail is real fast and has no markers on it at all. It is basically just a singletrack made by bikers that bisects a logging road. The guy at the shop called it Claremont, so I posted it under that, but my buddies and I call it Slingshot. The reason being, you get out of your car turn onto the trail, and are instantly going as fast as you dare for the next 15 minutes straight. There are rollers, 6' log drops, doubles, and a twisty little single track. Long sleeves and shin guards are a must because in some spots manzanita limbs will smack you. The guy at the shop told me that for cross sountry he rides downieville. But this is where he rides Downhill. Big words, but after riding it, damn if I don't agree
Recommended Route: Just get to the top of the mountain and follow the single track
Other recommended trails in the same area: Downieville, Mt. Hough, Devil's finger for the sadist in you
