Auburn Endurance Loop

This trail does not really have a name rather it is a compilation of a number of trails in and around Auburn''s State Recreation Area. This one is for the cross country rider in all of us. Some technical stuff near the beginning (Manzanita Trail) turning to a mile-long, fast fire road downhill (Stagecoach). Back uphill for 3.5 miles on fire roads, singletrack and pavement (900 foot ascent on Clementine Trail). Next, 17.5 miles of the sweetest single track in Ca (Connector and Foresthill Divide Trails). Back on Clementine, Confluence Trail for moderately technical extremely fun downhill along Middle Fork of the American River and back up Stagecoach. In total, about 29 miles. Only the strongest and hardiest of souls can compelte this in less than 3 hours.
Park at Russell Road staging area. Park and continue down Russell Road to first left and cross small bridge. Proceed on this road as it eventually turns to dirt. Past fire gate 100 feet pick up Manzanita Trail. Proceed for less than one mile as trail will eventually merge with Stagecoach. After you reach the bottom, take a left on Old Foresthill Road and take first left past fire gate. Proceed on Clementine tail 3.6 to a left on Connector Trail. After about 3.2 miles trail merges with Foresthill Divide stay right on trail. Once you reach Foresthill Road take a left for 100 feet cross the road and pick up trail on other side of road. At fork stay left and continue on Foresthill Divide for 11 miles. After endless miles of singletrack trail will fork stay right and return to Connector. This downhill section is pure singletrack fun. Once you complete this leg take a short right on pavement to fire gate and proceed right up fire road. Continue on this trail back to Stagecoach.
Summary: Many variations as stated by the author. The description is good, but in my opinion the quality is a little over stated. The trails are fun and I'm so glad we have them, but as for quality, they really don't compare to many trails right here in northern cali. I wouldn't travel far to do them, but if you are passing through it is well worth a visit.
Recommended Route: I like parking on Russel road, the climb out of the canyon is only 700', smooth, and low angle. Can be done in the dark if you get a flat after work. It's a nice way to finish a good ride.

Other recommended trails in the same area: Compilation of all the best trails in the area. Also Olmsted Loop, when in good shape and not fighting with equestrain folks can be fun.
