Pioneer Trail

Nice twenty mile banger. Trail begins with 5-6 miles gentle upslope that abutts highway 20. Not very technical but fast and fun. Cross Hwy 20 at mile 5.8 for 4.5 miles of sinlge track that runs ajacent to an old drainage canal or flume. Some good views and a nice change of pace. Once you reach Skillman Campground start back. Probably about 1000 feet in elevation change that begins at about 3,400 feet. Retunr ride is a gas.

Summary:
Nice, steady climb for a few miles up easy singletrack (preview of the fast flowing of coming back). Second half is a lot more rolling with some more technical sections. Coming back is a blast!

Recommended Route:
Climb from the store, following the highway consistantly. One little section crossing the flume with a park feel is fun to loop. Keep climbing, crossing driveways and fire roads until you reach the crossing. Cross highway 20 and continue the fun; ups and downs with nice coners and a couple of technical parts following the flume. One part opens up to a meadow with some loose river-like rock. We went further than I had last time, to the horse camp. Turned around and came back for the fun. Watch the speed coming back into the rock section (lost it and got impailed in the arm by a manzanita-ouch!). Two or three miles later, the trail splits: right takes you up where you came before, but is a bit of a pain to climb, or left takes you down a pretty quick open trail with an awesome view of the valley. Connects back with the campground at 20. Continue back down the trail you came with some good speed. Jumps, berms and a lot of fun.
