Crystal Bay Lookout

The lookout structure is gone but the view is one of the best of the lake and all of Tahoe. This trail is mostly singletrack and climbs a cumulative 1000 FT in about 5 miles. It is not too rocky compared to some places in Tahoe but there are a lot of rocks. The whole trail is ridable if you are a sport level rider. There are only one or two pitches that are steeper than the rest that a beginning rider may not be able to ride. This ride is perfect for a quick workout after work or a short evening ride that has an awesome view and a nice wilderness experiance to boot. The downhill on the way back is hard to beat too. You should be back at the trailhead in about an hour. From the trailhead go about 100 feet and make a right at the first fork and go up a steep singletrack for about 1/2 mile. You come out at a fire road. Turn right and ride a few feet and pass a gate and turn left. This road is a fire road that starts at the top of Beaver Street in Kings Beach. Go about a half a mile and turn right. (Look to your left and see a singletrack trailhead that will be the route back.) Immediately turn right at another gate. Follow the pole line singletrack down and up for another half a mile. When you crest the first hill on the pole line turn left onto a singletrack. This trail takes you over the ridge across the Nevada state line and down to a short paved section to the lookout. Turn right on the pavement and climb for another 1/4 mile to the top. There is a gate below so there will be no cars. Enjoy the view. Backtrack the way you came until you come to the singletrack trail mentioned above in parentheses. Go down this sweet little descent about a half a mile to an intersection just before a year round creek. Turn left. Go a 100 yards and turn left again. Look for the singletrack you came up on just before the gate and turn right to go back to the trailhead. This description seems circuitous but I have been as accurate as possible. Copy these directions and you shouldn''t get lost. There is a lot more singletack in the area that is worth exploring.

Trail Directions	Search google maps for 8877 Cut Thoat Ave 96143. Zoom in. That is my address. The trailhead is a block away. From HWY 28 in Kings Beach turn north on Coon St. and go up to Speckled Street. Turn right to Chipmunk St and turn left (dirt road) and park at the trailhead.
