Valley View Trail

Nice singletrack climb, steep in some sections, rideable year round. Really fun coming back down.
North 101 to Talmage exit, east toward Talmage, right at the city of 10,000 buddhas, first left on (I forget the name of the road, mill creek road? It's the first left and it goes east toward the OHV park), up the road about a mile and a half. There is a sign at the trailhead that says 'Valley View trail'. It's on the left hand side of the road, across the street from the little reservoir. If in doubt ask at a local bike shop.
Summary: fire road to the top step not much fun to pushup if you have a downhill bike. get a ride from somebody. you can also go up the trail it isint bad but it is alot easyer to get a ride in a car. This trail is fast sceary fast tight singel track. when you first start watch out for some ruts if their has been alot of rain steep rollers not bad when you start the singletrack sharp turns LOTS OF FUN!!!!!!!!!!!
Recommended Route: firer road to the top or you can take the trail.
Other recommended trails in the same area: lake mendocino. ask about at denny bikes in ukia.

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Summary: Valley View is a nice trail, but it's pretty steep on the way up. Our group usually tries to get some one to take us to the top of Cow Mt. in a truck and then we bomb down Valley View. The funnest part of valley View is the way down, VERY FAST = VERY FUN! Also, about a third of the way down there's a tree in the middle of the trail. Our group calls it George of the Jungle because if your not careful you'll become one with the tree, if you know what I mean! I would rate this trail as being an advanced singletrack with some technical sections, not meant for first-timers, or family rides. Undoubtedly the most extreme trail around Ukiah.
Recommended Route: If you like a fast downhill singletrack with some technical sections Valley View is a good trail!
Other recommended trails in the same area: A little north is lake mendocino. Take Hwy. 101 North, past Ukiah until the Lake Mendocino Dr. Exit. This exit will take you to an intersection, make a left, about 100 yards down take a right. this road will take you to the lake. Right before you get to the lake, make a left on the road to the Overlook picnic area, this is where the trail head is. It's called the Shakota Trail. There are lots of signs, park rangers, and friendly locals who can direct you if you get lost. It's a fun trail, but can get a little crowded on the weekends.

Ridden Trail: Every few months
Reviewed by: Tim Olson

Summary: I ride this trail pretty much every time I'm in Ukiah, which works out to be every few months. If I don't have much time but I want to do a fun ride with nice singletrack and a fun downhill, the Valley View trail is it. Much longer rides can be done by connecting this trail with a fireroad climb to the top of the mountain and a descent down either the Glen Eden trail toward Scott's Valley, or else keep following the fireroad all the way around toward Lake Mendocino. Be Aware of the route to lake Mendocino before you go, last time I went the trail at the end hadn't been completed and I ended up bushwacking for a mile or two in the dark. Also don't get the mistaken impression that the Glen Eden trail is a fifteen mile descent into Scott's valley, as one trail guide has implied. There is a big descent, but there is plenty of climbing involved as well if you're heading out that way. I ended up bonking hard out there because like an idiot I was expecting something like the 17 mile Downieville downhill.
Recommended Route: while some people like to ride the fire road up and take the trail back down, the singletrack climb is much nicer than the fireroad climb, and it takes about the same amount of time. For a nice ride that will take about an hour just start at the bottom of the trail, ride to the top, and then ride back down the way you came up.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Glen Eden trail, BMX jumps at Low Gap park
