Summary:
A fast and easy trail that has a couple of intermediate sections and one short and tough, though doable, rock garden. Don't look at the lake on the narrow section with the lake-side drop off and all is good. This trail seems like it can be mastered by an intermediate rider in a few rides. Too short to warrant a long drive to ride it.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Salmon Falls

Summary:
This is the best "closest trail" if you live in downtown Sacramento and you want to get in a quickie after work. It takes about 40 minutes to go out and back (6.5 miles). Very fast rollercoaster sections, a couple of tough rock gardens, and hell of a short climb going out. Its all tight singletrack. I've ridden this trail at least 15 times and the last time a rode it (May 17) I wiped out hard which was actually the only time ever eaten it nearly this hard. There is a downhill section going out after the big climb where some of the trail is eroding on the left (towards the reservoir) and if you don't watch it it will suck you off the trail and into the poison oak, trees, etc. It was a doosy!! It is a very cool trail, although.

Recommended Route:
I like to park a the eastern end of the trail which is 3.2 miles from the bridge that splits the Salmon Falls area and Sweetwater. There is a small parking spot right past a small bridge and this where the trail head is. Drop in here and stay high. Its pretty easy to follow all the way to the large paved parking area. Turn around and go back or you could climb out of this parking lot, go west on Salmon Falls Rd probably a couple hundred yards across the bridge and hook up with the Salmon Falls trailhead on the left (the other side of the reservoir).

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Salmon Falls, Sly Park, Bidwell, Foresthill

Summary:
a fun trail, mostly single track with fun downhills. not quite as rocky as the darrington trail. riding the described loop make the ride even more enjoyable.

Recommended Route:
ride the trail from the parking lot down about 2.2 miles and hang a right down towards the river and cross the old concrete bridge(when the river is low enough). head up to the right to eventually join back up with the darrington trail.

Summary:
This has got to be one of the best local trails in the area. From the recreation area, trail is smooth for the first 200 yards, till you come to a steep creek crossing, after creek, trails a little rocky for about the next 1/2 mile, till you come to really the only moderatly hard climb, trail climbs for about 1/4 to 1/2 mile before turning down, this downhill is pretty technical in some section, so i dont recommend taking it to fast, there are some rocky sections i still have to walk, and i ride this trail at least 2-3 times a month. The last big downhill section on the way back to recreation area is a BLAST it is steep, and smooth, although the trail is kind of narrow, so again i dont recommend going to fast. All in all this trail rules, its almost all singletrack, and its got so much varied terrain, its just to short, good thing salmon falls is right across the bridge.

Recommended Route:
i like to start at the southern end of trail, but for 1st timers, i recommend starting at the salmon falls state recreation area, which is just south of salmon falls bridge, on the west side of road, you will see the signs.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
dyke 8, salmon falls, jenkinsons lake-(aka sly park)
