Trail Directions
Rattlesnake Ridge: Yosemite, Foresta Elevation drop is 2,500 Length is 10 miles almost all downhill One can ride up the Foresta Road which starts in El Portal on Hwy 140 for 6 miles or you can shuttle this by driving a car to Foresta and starting at either the junction of Hwy 120 and the Old Coulterville Road(this gives you 2 miles down on paved road) or you can drive into Foresta for 2 miles and start the ride at the end of the paved road. Follow the dirt road, now called the Foresta Road down for about a 3/4ths of a mile and take the sharp left turn by a meadow. Go down of a mile to a bridge by a waterfall. Continue on for another mile or so going up a short hill and then past a sometimes locked gate. Go almost a mile along this open area, going under some power lines till you come to a sharp right turn. If you were to follow this dirt road down you would come out in El Portal on Hwy 140. The single track starts here on your left dropping in to some rounded dirt mounds and then going left. The first mile or so is fast with the last mile extremely steep and technical!!!!! Not for rookies!!! Go to http://www.topozone.com/findutm.asp and enter these UTM cords to find the various points of the ride. At the TopoZone UTM page enter 11 for UTM zone then the next number is the easting and the last is the northing, do not enter the E or N after the cords. El Portal Quad Map here are the UTM cords: Junction of Hwy 120 and Coulterville Rd into Foresta- UTM 11 259282E 4177320N - EL CAPITAN quad Start of dirt road down to El Portal- UTM 11 256940E 4175587N - EL PORTAL quad Top of single track- UTM 11 255858E 4174587N - EL PORTAL quad Bottom of single track- UTM 11 255343E 4173403N - EL PORTAL quad

Summary:
You can't ride this trail without skidding, it is very steep in places (other places are very rideable). It's a moral dilemma, ride the fun downhill and erode or don't. Fact is, the utility company tears this trail up every couple of years working on the lines. Like it or not, skidding bike tires are not doing any damage that the dozer isn't going to plow under anyway. This is a free country, you decide.

Recommended Route:

Summary:
It dont matter if ya power slide as this follows a buried phone line trail. The whole trail was chewed up by a bulldozer to put a line in and it will be again when they put a new line in, so enjoy. If the phone company can do it why cant we?

Recommended Route:
see directions. Very hard trail. Not for Wussies

Summary:
This trail is not worth most peoples time if you care about the environment.

Recommended Route:
this trail is much too steep to be riden without causing erosion and unreversible damage to the hill. Power slides are counter to all imba standards. This type of mbing is what causes people to lose access!!!
So please ride reponsibly...not like a moron>
