Ridden Trail: Once a year

Cross Country Rider Summary: I rode it for the first time in a few years and was dissappointed in the amount of erosion that had taken place. Apparently the folks who spent so much time building jumps didn't have time to do any erosion control work. Dude, what is erosion control work? That's what keeps your trail from ending up in the bottom of Melones resivoir. This trail would appeal mainly to the "freeriders" who like the jumps and one North Shore style catwalk that I was chicken to ride. There is. however a fun XC trail following an old water ditch for about a mile or so. Just keep climbing (and hiking) up and veer right at the most major junctions. Bring your pruning shears. If you turn left on the water ditch trail it will contour accross and up a bit and tie into a poorly built bootleg downhill trail that is rideable down only, at least until it's too eroded to ride at all, then they'll just build another disposable trail. The kids must think I'm a real scrooge! The great thing about this trail is the low elevation and southern exposure making it a good plce to ride when other areas are wet and cold. Recommended Route: See above Other recommended trails in the same area: Bald mountain near Sonora, Red Hills, Glory Hole, South Melones off Schell Creek rd.

Ridden Trail: Once a week

, from Avery Summary: I have been riding this trail for years. It was always a good trail, but with a fire a few years back it became much more visible and thus, well known. Which isn't always a good thing, but in this case it took this trail from a ride that was fun on occassion to a ride I now do as often as possible (approx. 3 times a week, if I'm fortunate enough to find the time)Some local riders have put an incredible amount of work into this trail. There are now all kinds of jumps, drops and gaps to test your skills. You'll have to earn the right to ride it going up, but the downhill is worth that price many times over. Its definitely a trail that deserves at least one ride from anyone who loves freeriding or aggressive trail riding. Just be sure to respect the private property boundaries (barb wire fences) That is the only thing that threatens the closure of this trail and the one reason that I am a little hesitant to even be posting this review. Just respect it and enjoy the land that is available on this trail. It is more than enough. ALSO, body armour is definitely advised if you plan on riding the jumps and gaps. Recommended Route: From the bottom up and then from the top down. Other recommended trails in the same area: Slick Rock in Bear Valley, great freeride opportunities on this one. All the B.L.M land between Bear Valley and Angels Camp. There is at least one great trail on each parcel.

, from Hoetown Summary: Funn downhill with nice combination of rock gardens and fast stuff. Recommended Route: Same as others, just don't go through or over any barb-wire fences - that's private property. Other recommended trails in the same area: Redhills, Gloryhole and Hogan all work during the winter and are usually out of the fog.
