Murray Peak via Clara Burgess Trail

Head up the dirt road and over the gate. past the first singletrack, looking for the 1st trail to the left. there are lots of footpaths leading all over, when looking southward, there is a lone sharp peak on the backside of the range you are climbing, the tip of that peak is your goal. Keep it in sight and you cant get lost. After a traverse across a small ravine, youll be at the Clara Burgess Trailhead, take it up to the peak with some hike-a-bike, then descend the backside, making all right turns on trail splits, and eventually looping back to a dirtroad split left. follow this back to your gas-suckin-transpo.....
Follow the directions for the Goat Trails, start at Vons RimRock Shopping Center.. on Highway 111(south palm canyon)between Date Palm and Farrell in Cathedral City
Summary: What a great training trail, very steap, rocky, dry, loose, but what a view from the top. I have taken a lot of riders who think thay are fit, some have summited others have not, but all got a very tuff ride.

Ridden Trail: Once a year

Summary: I have hiked and biked this trail. Both methods yield a good soaking in a Jacuzzi are difficult. Hiking takes 50 minutes to the trailhead and another 50 minutes to get up to the peak. Getting down takes about 70-80 minutes. To add insult to injury, the peak nails you with multiple switchbacks at the very end. The view is awesome! During the winter months, you get a panoramic view of San Jac and San Gagornio both with white caps.Make sure your equipment is ready, beginners will be worked. I would not recommend riding any of the trails in this area alone, lots of H2O required.
Recommended Route: As the directions state, start at Vons however, just past the gate to the water tanks, look for a single track on the right. This route requires allot more skill then the fire road and places you at the top of the first plateau. Look for your first single track on the right or stay on the fire road until you get to another single track (south) leading down into Eagle Canyon, also known as Janes Hoff Breu. Dont descend into the canyon keep going and stay take the first right. This brings you to a point where you cross the ravine. Follow it to a metal sign where the Clara Burgess trail starts. Take the trail up staying to the right until you reach the peak. There is a sign requesting no admittance from January to June due to Big Horn sheep breeding season.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Take your pick. The area behind Vons is loaded with single track ranging from easy to difficult. In any case, the area is destined to claim its share of sweat and blood.I left mine there.

Summary: this trail is the last sanctuary of riding in this desert. it cant be closed cuz its state owned. its also considered too strenuous for other users, so its just you, yer bros, and kickass singletrack!! the view up top at 420 is amazing....
Recommended Route: there are many ways to access the base of murray peak. the most direct being the vons rimrock plaza
Other recommended trails in the same area: drop me a line i can sketch out a ride plan for you.
